Hi. I recently ungraded my WiFi to a Sky (UK) Ultrafast System. I was struggling to find my Sonos system on my new network. I tried connecting direct from my router to my Sonos Sub Mini and everything then appeared and is working fine with the new App, ran trueplay and that worked too. I am a little confused as I read you can’t set up a wired system by connecting to home theatre components such as Subs, etc. Was the information I read now outdated about connecting from router to sub ? Would you leave the system alone now as it’s working ok ? Or should I try to reset my system and add from new over WiFi ? Thanks for any input.
Definitely do not factory reset anything when you have a fully functioning system. It’s not good practice however to use a Sub or Home Theatre ‘surround’ speaker as your wired ‘root bridge’ device, as they are secondary products to a primary device. It’s better to cable a primary device instead, such as (in no particular order) a main Home Theatre product, a left speaker in a stereo pair, or a standalone speaker.
If you only have a right speaker in a stereo pair then that will do okay, but avoid wiring a Sub or surround at all costs.
Thanks

I seem to recall that with Sky mesh setups, a wired Sonos product (direct to the router) is a recommended setup, but it just should not be a secondary product like a Sub or Surround. It used to be the case a Sonos Boost could be used in place of the wired speaker, but most users tend to use a standalone speaker instead. So if you can find some way to do that, then I would suggest you try that instead.

Maybe pick-up a used Sonos Boost I think that would perhaps help in your case - but it’s a matter for yourself, or just see how things go. It’s just not a recommended setup the way you have things at the moment.
