I use TP-Link Deco M5 mesh (3 disks/nodes) around my house without Sonos issues.
Router has DHCP on for allocating the IP addresses to the various devices, with WiFi off.
The first node of the mesh connects to the router by Ethernet. The mesh is in AP mode (not router mode), with WiFi on, so the mesh rather than the router sends out the 2.4/5ghz signals around the house.
I allocate each node its own static IP address within the router’s settings (probably not necessary by I prefer it for mesh stability).
The various Sonos speakers connect to whichever mesh node they choose to be the strongest signal.
Hope this helps? (There are more up-to-date TP-Link models with WiFi 6 of course - mine are a couple of years old now but all work well.)
Also use TP-Link, 3 node Deco XE75 using the 6GHz band for backhaul. Installed about 4 weeks ago so with all the issues of recent app and firmware to deal with. Took a few factory resets on a couple of Sonos Ones (Gen 1) to get them connected but 11 other devices connected OK. I use the Deco in router mode, ISP supplied router is in pass thru mode and it’s WiFi turned off. With the Deco software I have each Sonos device tied to a specific node, with static IP, and with seamless roaming turned off on all except a Roam. This reduces the risk of Sonos devices switching nodes just because the speed is slightly better on another node. Stability is much better than my old WiFi 4 setup but still not 100%, had a Connect 2 drop out yesterday but a router reboot fixed it. Most other issues are App related.
Home WiFi typically has 35-40 clients connected and we have two Zigbee hubs, both on channels to reduce any 2.4GHz interference.
Is mesh WiFi more problematic? I honestly have no idea. I do suspect that a lot of current Sonos issues are WiFi related for reasons some of the more technical posts have highlighted. Our house is spread horizontally quite a bit so mesh is really the only option.
I have used mesh Wi-Fi for longer than I have used Sonos never had any connection issues
I have eero 6 pro network connected to a 5 g router which also has a 16 port unmanaged switch connected to the main node
I have a node in the back of the house for garden connection mainly and as I live in a small house that’s enough for my use even though I have around 40 units connected
my isp router has no bridge mode so got creative and I turned off WiFi on it and I limit the dhcp server to a small range the main eero does the rest
my arc soundbar is hard wired to the switch so I run sonosnet mesh but my moves and roams had no problem on my mesh WiFi
never had any dropouts in 4 years apart from isp ones
head’s up though I am still using 16.1 application and firmware cannot comment on new application
good luck
I have an old-ish linksys velop mesh (dual band, two nodes). I have them linked by ethernet cable for backhaul. I have tried the new app with both SonosNet and wifi without major issues. Just put your ISP-linked equipment in “modem” mode or equivalent so it acts just as a link to their network without doing much else (or fudge it like skullc said).
