Hello all,

I wanted to share my experiences after not being able to use my Sonos products for over a month after this horrible update.  I believe my problems started after the last Sonos System Update, not necessarily the app (which is horrible).  But after spending countless hours and almost throwing in the towel on the whole Sonos product line I’ve invested heavily into over the last several years, I finally have a stable system again, although I still hate the new app.

Here is my setup:

> Playbase with sub and 2 play 1’s for surround.  Playbase is wired Ethernet

> 3 Connect Amps for daily music streaming, all wired Ethernet

> Beam with 2 Play One SL’s for surround, all wireless

> 1 standalone One, wireless

All devices sit behind a UDM Pro

Starting around last summer, I started to have issues with the Connect Amps sometimes cutting out for a few seconds towards the end of the track.  After a lot of research and troubleshooting, turns out it is an S2 software update causing memory issues in the older Sonos devices.  This didn’t seem to affect my other devices, only the Connect Amps, which are used daily for music streaming in the house.  So, although I did not have Automatic Updates turned on, I would periodically check to see if there were to fix this problem.  That’s when my problems really got crazy around May 7th when this last major update was released.  I updated all of the products, then everything would drop off of the new app, reappear, then drop again.  Couldn’t stream music to ANY of my devices.  If the device appeared in the list long enough to try to play anything, the music would start but would maybe only last a minute.
I factory reset the Connect Amps, but that didn’t help either.  I even tried to make all of my devices wireless but didn’t make any differences.

Here is where it gets really interesting.  Even though my main devices were hard wired, I noticed that in my UDM Pro they were sometimes connecting to my actual wireless network.  I was assuming that the hardwired devices were communicating through SonosNet, not my actual wifi.  Apparently at some point I had joined a device to my wireless network, and it shared the SSID and password to the other devices.  I proved this when I unplugged all of the ethernet cables to the devices - they were then showing up as wifi devices, but my problems didn’t go away.  So I blocked all of the MAC’s from my wifi and plugged the hardwired ones back in, but that still didn’t help.

So here’s what I did to fix my issue, and I’m sharing all of this in the hopes it could help someone else:

I unplugged the power to EVERY SINGLE DEVICE, and waited for them to drop completely off of the horrible app.  Once that was done, I started with each device that was going to be hard wired first, factory resetting them to wipe out my wireless network settings.  I started witht the Connect Amps first.  After doing the 3, they were stable and were staying on the app and I could play music again!
Next, I went to the Playbase which was hardwired, factory reset it, and then factory reset the sub and surrounds.  They stayed on as well.  then I finished with the Beam and surrounds, and the standalone One and amazing, every device has been stable.  I’m not sure why, but somehow SonosNet and my Wifi were not playing nicely together after this last system update for some reason.  So factory resetting my devices to get rid of my wifi SSID and password, forcing the hardwired devices to communicate with the wireless devices via SonosNet did the trick for me.

I hope this helps someone!

Glad it work for you.

I have a question and a favor to ask.
You own a playbase. Do you have a iPad to?
If so, could you tell me if it is possible for you to trueplay tune the playbase with the iPad?
