I have been a Sonos user for over 10 years. However, the system is no longer usable since the new app. And the customer support that was once excellent no longer exists. Recently I wanted to contact them - the wait time would have been 4 hours. Absolutely unacceptable! So I'm looking for alternatives. What can you recommend?

Give the app some more time. It sucks but imo better than replacing a whole house of Sonos atm.

some alternatives talked about here

Bluesound is your other similar option.
I have a mixture of both but if I was starting again I would go exclusively Bluesound, Sonos direction of travel seems to be more about marketing than substance these days sadly.

Not a knock on Bluesound, @Bernado @Alex1234, just an additional idea for your consideration: WiiM devices for wireless functionality paired with high-quality non-wireless speakers.

If you’re an Apple user you may want to check about Airplay functionality before considering Wiim, there’s another post on this forum about a Wiim update removing Airplay!

Or just wait a couple of weeks?

Or just wait a couple of weeks.

Hi @Rhonny, that is quite prudent and what I am doing personally. One thing that people can do that may make them feel better is to look at possible options, which imho is more constructive than rage venting. Just my two bits. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As an aside, some months back I added a WiiM Mini to a Play 5 to create a two-headed solution: Sonos and DNLA. Works like a charm.

A very reasonable response!

@press250  I am ordering a WiiM mini to do the very same as you

but if it works out I will be getting a class a/b amp and a pair of floorstanders to replace the 5s 😊

Just received my WiiM mini took 5 minutes to setup  totally blown away with the quality of the sound and the application is amazing

found my replacement but for now using my 5s and sub cannot believe I finally have a grahic equaliser as well 😊

It is a bit like replacing chalk with cheese though..? It’s not a whole home audio solution.

Not into whole home audio I live in a 2 up 2 down just want stuff that works and doesn’t need to be controlled via the web as in volume control

I liked I could use my moves in my garden and enjoyed the uniformity of the sound

I waited months after the sound signature was changed from a great rich sound to clarity after 14.10 and when i got the email to beta test a web app my heart sank

now i don’t need to go into the Sonos App to listen to music and can still use my Sonos speakers but they are frozen in time to 16.1

you are more than welcome to enjoy and praise the Sonos ecosystem but I will be changing back to analogue separates for my main music system and augmenting it with cheaper echo speakers from now on thanks to WiiM I can use the application to control all of them 😊

Are you using the WiiM mini’s analogue out into the 5? I keep reading reviews that the analogue out is no good but one hifi aficionado said it was absolutely fine.

Yes I am using the analogue out it’s not perfect but it sounds good and it works 😊

I got the cheapest option for a test and so far I am happy with it

my plan is to connect the optical out with an amplifier with internal dac but I am done over paying for stuff that gets made redundant after a couple of years

hence going back to analogue amplifier and speakers and adding digital to that 👍

Thank you, sound like a good plan.
