Why do updates keep failing?

I use an Apple MBP, M2 chip, currently running Sonoma 14.

For the last three or four updates, they have failed. I have had to delete, reinstall and rebuild the index. This is not an acceptable way to keep the software up to date. Other vendors can provide smooth app updates, why can’t Sonos?

What makes it worse is I am forced into taking the update. Even if I click to say leave it until later, I’m forced back into a dialogue box that keeps appearing until I click on Update, only to see it fail again.

When is this going to be fixed. Or should I think about upgrading to different hardware?

Even the drop down below asking for tags won’t scroll. Sonos clearly don’t invest much in software design!

Hi @Flybridge

Thanks for your post!

We currently do not fully support macOS13/macOS14 but are working on full support which should also solve this issue. Currently there is no timeframe to share for this resolution.

You are already aware of the process to uninstall and reinstall, but you shouldn’t need to re-index or even reconfigure the Music Library - those settings are held on the speakers and are not affected by the removal of the app.

Please also see this post which should help you skirt the reinstallation process:

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Based on the above reply from Sonos, are we saying that we cannot control the Sonos speakers via our MacOS laptop, until the techy chaps at Sonos have resolved the firmware conflict with Mac ?…...if so, I will give up opening the Sonos app for the time being and stick to using my iPhone instead ?

It is now mid-January 2024, when is this issue going to be fixed? Many Sonos users are Mac users and we cannot control our existing Sonos systems with the current Mac IOS updates.

Please fix this, it has been months.

Thank you!

Hi @StaceyStacey

I don’t have a schedule that I can share with you.

Please note, however, that no-one should be unable to control their Sonos systems as a result - just download the Sonos app from our downloads page to update.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply! 😀

The Sonos updates fail. Tried it dozens of times over last few months. Get “unexpected error” message. Sonoma is updated to current version.

I can control Sonos only with my phone, same as other users posted. Thank you for hopefully getting some attention to a fix.

Have also deleted and redownloaded Sonos controller app multiple times to no avail.

Hi @StaceyStacey

I’m not sure I understand - if you have uninstalled the app and downloaded the current version from our website, then you have the latest version and you don’t need to update it from within the app.

If it’s the Sonos system’s updates that are failing, rather than the app update, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.
