Where is the music index now option and the new S2 app?
All of my digital music is stored on my western digital Nas Drive. The previous S1 and S2 apps allowed me to update my music index whenever I added or deleted music on my Nas Drive. I can’t find that option in the new app.
I was also able to create shortcuts to the various music folders on my Nas Drive through the old app, but apparently the new version no longer supports that option. Why is that?

This is the potential danger Sonos are forcing some of their users to face. It doesn't take too much for a malicious actor to create an apk and say it's Sonos 16.1 and for someone to install it and be in a world of pain. There is a legitimate apk on apkmirror I have seen links to elsewhere on the site.
There's actually a great App on the store called apk extractor and you can use it to get an apk from a device with it installed and then use it elsewhere to get the App back.
For iOS, I'm not aware of any such similar method (sideloading etc.).
I know in the Mean time. And in the end the Point to the Apple official store. This is awfull. I read somewhere that Apple was forced to allow ipa downloads other then from the official Apple app store in the EU. I hope you find the alternative ipa file!
I use Sonos since Dec 2005. Eventually upgraded from S1 to S2. Now this...i suspect Sonos to use it's existing customer BASE to Alpha test their new app... Disgusting
I play my music from my NAS drive and this feels like they are trying to drive me towards streaming
Completely weird idea: buy a cheap Android phone, just use it as Sonos 'remote'. install the 16.1 Brown app on it from APKmirror.
Actually back in 2009/2010 i did exactly that. I forgot if that was to replace my old cr100 control.
And you are right, i also use my own carefully Crafted music library on a router with SSD drive connected to it. In 2015 Spotify was launched, i naaiively thought, great, for 12 euro per month i get all the music, can even listen to it offline, until. ....i stop paying for my subscription. Ok ok buying cd's is also costly.
My son is using Spotify has no NAS. He's perfectly happy him paying a Spotify, a Netflix subscription.
But that's economics...
Yeah, but I don’t want to buy a cheap android phone, I want to use it from this one just like I used to be able to do. And support isn’t available on a weekend, but only when I am at work
Totally understand! I had support on the line day before yesterday. All i got from them was some played empathy...and the message all would come back in order in the months to come…
fyi this wasq before my wife stumbled on a facebook post where someone mentioned APKmirror to rollback to v16.1.
Today i read a french written article about the new Sonos app. In there was mentioned some 'promised' Future fixes by sonos…
While at the moment i can use my old v16.1 again on my Android phone, my feeling is that at some Point in time in the Future i Will be forced to install some Sonos app again...so i disabled all automatic updates of the Sonos hardware components and of course also the app update.
Somebody mentioned that one could create an ipa from An installed iPhone that still has the v16.1, but this way Beyond my knowledge.maybe on An iPhone discussion group?
my confidence in Sonos is gone. What An arrogance!!!
Yeah, it’s a complete crock, they should at least allow people to roll back until the new app has been properly fixed - still on a positive it means that I am reacquainting myself with my vinyl
I turned off automatic updates in my S2 app, and last night that version was still on my iPhone. I woke up this morning and my phone had been updated to the new Sonos app without my input or any action on my part. I am pissed.
What is wrong with this company? They roll out a half baked mess that creates chaos for longtime users, especially those of us who have multiple Sonos products and have been loyal customers. I read an article that stated Sonos is closely monitoring this forum for comments, so I hope they read this when I say that they totally screwed up. Heads should roll, especially the testing team and Sonos should immediately make available the S2 version in the Apple Store until they have a fully functioning app.
I shall be in the phone to them in the morning with an appeal for the S2 app again
Fabulous - there is no chat and when I called them, my estimated wait time is 50 minutes …….. seriously, who has this long to wait during the working day.
fabulous - thank you Sonos for stuffing up my system and then not allowing me to speak to anyone to try and find a solution.
what massive a pile of
I had rolled back to 16.1 on Android and all was well…. until the Sonos Windows app updated the controller fw and removed my entire library. I went into the Windows app settings and my prior music library folder was not listed. I tried to re-add it and notta. 913 error saying it cannot add the folder. Tried everything. Giving Sonos full permissions on the music folder, completely disabling my firewall, running the Sonos desktop app as admin, etc. Just the same error over and over and over.
So I think. Okay. Easy. I’ll just do it from 16.1 on my phone. Nope. Now when clicking on the music library settings, it says I have to update the Android app and won’t let me even enter that section. Thing is, the new app doesn’t even have library settings. Wtf?
Now I have to wait until mid June for library access to be restored? Why the fuck was this piece of shit new app and controller fw rolled out in such a severely crippled state? Now they’re making eveyone wait.?
Dear Sonos, Kindly go fuck yourself and do the right thing. Roll back the app and fw until the new is actually ready for release. Because this is your absolute WORST fuck up to date. No music library for a month? That leaves my speakers completely useless. Seriously. Fuck off.
I’m with you on that mate
Removing the ability to play files from my sd card on Android was bad enough. This is just a flat out disaster in every, single, aspect. There is not ONE good thing about these updates. Not one. People have complained about how terrible the app is for YEARS on end. How can you people ignore everything on these forums and Google Play Store reviews, and decide to just release this trash instead? Most people would be fired for fucking up their job this badly. You need entirely new leadership and an entirely new dev team.
I have emailed the CEO repeatedly, but I suspect that it is lost in a sea of noise about how crappy this is.
FYI - I sent an email to the address listed for the CEO. I received two replies, the one below being the most recent because I mentioned that not being able to set an alarm is the least of the issues. I will leave it up to you to decide whether it’s an adequate reply. I also suggested that they make the S2 app available again until all the bugs are rolled out, but there was no mention of that.

Thank you for reaching out to Sonos Customer Experience. We hope this email finds you in good health. Thank you for your time and patience regarding your case. I understand your concern with the update on the new Sonos App. I know that the missing features are important.
This revitalization of the Sonos app is our most ambitious software update yet and aims to address what our customers have been asking us for. It’s a huge undertaking, and we are taking the time and effort to ensure all features work seamlessly and meet both our standards and the standards of our listeners. With this commitment in mind, features such as playlist creation and queue editing within the Sonos app, sleep timers, and local library support will not be available at launch.
Many of you have shared valuable feedback on both the improvements that have made your experience better, as well as the areas where we fell short. We are listening to all of your comments and working to address them as quickly as possible. Over the coming weeks, we will reintroduce the below features, while fixing bugs and performance issues. Thank you for your engagement and we look forward to building upon this first step to create a listening experience that meets everyone’s needs.
VoiceOver on iOS now properly interacts with individual elements of the Sonos app's home screen.

I have emailed the CEO 3 times and have had nothing
Lastly, I found a workaround: SonoPad, which I downloaded from the App Store for a few bucks years ago, has a quasi-elegant iPad interface and has almost all of the S2 functions. SonoPhone for iPhone has a more conference room chic. SonoPad saved my music night. I found a couple of very recent reviews by other users who downloaded the app as an alternative to the new Sonos app. It doesn’t hurt to give it a shot until the new app is fully baked. Navigating is different but is easy to get used to. Just a suggestion.
You can still update the Music Index using a desktop controller.
If you have a phone/pad controller that has not been updated, refrain from updating for the present.
Not true in my case. My wife’s iPad wasn’t updated, but launching the old S2 app, the Music Library is gone, and a popup box says how to readd your library, which doesn’t work in my case - just says “Denied”!!!
So all 4 of my systems can only access internet services, Pandora, etc. All my thousands of wonderful songs is sitting on my NAS doing nothing. Luckily I have an app for my phone that can connect to my NAS so I can play MY music in the evening with my headphones.
Come on Sonos - after about 12 years of almost perfect service, you had to go and invent a crappy new app!!! Now it’s back to the drawing board to fix your mistakes!!!
Dear Greg,
I want to express my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused by the absence of key features in the new Sonos app, particularly the ability to play folders from a local library and search your local library. I fully understand how essential these functionalities are to your Sonos experience, and I deeply regret any disappointment or frustration they may have caused.
Your feedback is incredibly important to us, and I want to assure you that it has been received with the utmost seriousness. We are genuinely committed to providing our users with the best possible experience, and your input serves as a guiding light in our efforts to continuously improve.
Please know that we are working tirelessly to reinstate these critical features in the app as soon as possible. The ability to play and search music from a local library is a top priority for us, and we are targeting next month for its implementation. For further details on upcoming updates, I encourage you to refer to the article provided.
In the meantime, I understand that workarounds such as using AirPlay or the Sonos web app may not fully compensate for the missing features, but I hope they offer some temporary relief.
Once again, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this situation has caused. Your engagement and support as a valued member of the Sonos community mean the world to us, and we are committed to earning back your trust and exceeding your expectations.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work diligently to address this issue.
Warm regards,
Sonos Customer Experience
Usually before any release (S/W or H/W) incorporation of former functionality is a must, AND thoroughly tested prior to release.
Half of my listening is via my music library! That’s now gone until you fix this bugged release.
please, please hurry!!!
The same with me mate
WTAF Sonos...my (extensive) music library has now disappeared and even my pc desktop app can’t find it (error 913) Why release a half baked app that has rendered so many systems useless? SORT IT OUT Thank god for Plex
Guess I’ll be walking around the house with my headphones on, using the “Music Streamer” app on my phone, since Sonos took that feature away!!!
