Changed my wifi provider and with old Sonos products did a full reset and managed to get all my iTunes music into my Sonos library on my laptop, so All my music plays fine form my laptop. However, when I try to add Apple Music to my IOS Sonos app with my Apple id and password I get the message “We have run into a problem, please try again”. Can anyone help please.

Hello @Eynshamresident, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble adding Apple Music in your Sonos.

First step I would suggest is to reboot everything in order to refresh the network connections, starting with your Router → Sonos → Smartphone.

If the above didn’t resolve it then please, after trying to add and fail - Submit Diagnostics and reach out to our Support Team for live troubleshooting.

They have tools at their disposal to provide you with information and advice, specific to your system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I rebooted but got the same message so submitted diagnostics and spoke to Sonos support. They told me that I need a subscription Apple account to get Apple Music on the Sonos app. I just want to access my iTunes library (which I keep instep with my Sonos music library on my laptop) on the Sonos app. Is that something I can do easily?

Hi. It has never been possible as far as I know, to access  iTunes itself from Sonos.  You just need to specify the location of the music files in your Sonos Music library as being the folder in which the iTunes music files reside.

For future reference, a change of WiFi or router does not require a reset of your Sonos products, so you could have just lleft things working as they were..

Thanks for your reply. I’ve always kept my iTunes library and Sonos music library in sync on my laptop but I can’t access any music now via the Sonos app, even if both libraries are turned on on the laptop.
Sonos support told me to reset all my old products when I changed router as the app wasn’t able to help.

Hi.  I am still struggling to understand your set up.  There are no music fies in the Sonos Music Library - it is just a collection of file paths pointing to the music files, where those music files are stored on a  networked computer of NAS drive.  Are you maintaining two separate sets of music files?  Sorry if I am misunderstanding your question and problem.

Thanks for your help John. I’m almost 80 so maybe a bit too old for Sonos now! My iTunes music is in my Sonos library so no problems when using the laptop, but no music appears in my app - I can add radio stations in the app ok though. I was told by Sonos that I needed a subscription account with Apple if I wanted to add Apple Music in my app but I don’t want a subscription, just to be able to access my iTunes music from the app (mainly loads of my old cds imported into iTunes) .

I have found the Network Path to my iTunes music, then selecting Manage in Settings, Choose Music Library, then Add Shares Folder this then requests my Network Path, Username and Password. I think I’m getting closer but I don’t know my Username and Password - could that be my Microsoft ones?

You are never too old for Sonos!  I think Apple have sown the seeds of confusion here, by their changing the meaning of “Apple Music” and dropping of the term “iTunes”.  If you say “Apple Music” now, people are going to think you mean the subscription streaming service, hence the confusion with Sonos Support.

The Sonos Music Library is just a collection of file paths pointing to files accessible on the network, whether stored on a computer or NAS drive.  Sonos dowsn’t really use iTunes at all.  iTunes stores the file in a set location, and all that Sonos is doing is pointing at that folder.

It is quite a while since I used the Sonos Music Library, as I stream everything now.  But it was always easiest to set up the Music Library using the controller on the computer where the music files are stored.  Is that what you are doing?  Once set up, the Music Library will be available on any Sonos app - provided, of course, the computer is powered on and connected to the network.

So to emphasise - you are not using Apple Music.  You are not using iTunes.  You are pointing your Sonos Music Library at the folder where iTunes stores the music files. There is no need for a separate set of files for Sonos (I am still not totally sure whether you are maintaining a set of files outside of iTunes, but you certainly don’t need to do so.)

I hope that helps.
