Is there a size limit for Spotify playlist to be played using the Sonos app? I have a 9,000 song Spotify playlist that I have added to My Sonos but it won’t play.  I get an error message that says the song cannot be added to the queue.  I have other, smaller, Spotify playlists that play fine.

Hi @Ebizboy

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Yes - the limit with Spotify is approximately 6,750 entries, though it varies with the size of the metadata for the entries.

I hope this helps.

There is also a timeout limit when loading playlists, it is either 10 or 20 seconds, I forget which. The timeout is enforced in the Sonos app and in the Spotify gateway.

I seem to recall the queue-loading timeout is 15 seconds.

Hi @controlav & @ratty

I confirmed it recently - it’s 20 seconds.

Is there a plan to increase the limit? This is likely the reason I can’t play my “Liked” songs on Sonos.

I wouldn’t think so.

But then, Sonos doesn’t reveal future changes  until they release them.

I would consider breaking up your ‘liked’ playlist into more than one. Something which I would expect would not be terribly fun, but remember, Sonos is designed for the most user cases, not the corner cases.

It seems like there are a lot of people with this problem judging by the amount of posts having trouble playing large playlists and liked song lists. And this is just the people who take time to sign up and post about it.

I would think a Sonos Product Manager has precise information, or at least closer than I do, to how many people are impacted, and would be prioritizing the efforts to fix this perceived issue based on that data.

Do you work for Sonos Bruce?

I mean you could make the argument that it can’t be unlimited and 6700 is a large amount of tracks. Sonos IMO don’t really develop the app for max playback features, so best to stick with the music service app for max features (or third party local library server like Plex or Squeezebox server)

From a user’s perspective we just want to play our liked songs from Spotify. it doesn’t seem weird to want to be able to do that. Music fans who have been streaming for years would naturally accumulate a lot of liked songs and some large playlists. But it sounds like you’re saying Sonos is not for serious music fans and for casual listeners which doesn’t make sense. Why would a casual listener spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a speaker system if they just want to play the radio?

6700 is a lot but that number seems arbitrary. Why 6700 and not 6000 or 7000 or 10000?

Sonos employees are clearly marked as such next to their user icon and name.

From earlier in this topic:

Thanks, @Stanley_4

I am not a Sonos employee.

I’m not either but I’m open to taking a job slapping the marketing types over speaker names among other topics, including replacing Zones with Rooms.

If they come up with “The New Sonos VI” or “Play IV” I’ll work for free.

I’m not saying it’s not for serious music fans whatever that is.

If you want a better Spotify experience Sonos doesn’t provide that in their app. Use the app and cast if you need a 10K song playlist instead of 6700.
