It’s become impossible to listen to Spotify or Apple Music through Sonos. I have 15 Sonos speakers throughout my house and I’d really like a solution here that’s not to restart/refresh my network. I Work in IT so I know the “quick fixes” I’ve read on these forums. Thank you
From the products listed in your profile, you may be causing an issue by using the Boost in your system. All of your speakers can be connected wirelessly, but I would suggest removing the Boost and hardwiring the Arc and Connect Amp if possible. Some users have had issues with the boost and the new app. I got a subscription to Apple music when I saw all the complaints about skipping.
What I have found is, Apple music, especially the lossless and spatial content, uses a lot of bandwidth and could stress your network. When I'm at home, it works fine, but if i'm out and about or somewhere that has slow WIFi, it skips or drops out completely.
Most of the ‘quick fixes’ here boil down to the ‘permanent fix’ of assigning your Sonos devices reserved IP addresses in your router. As an IT professional, you should be aware of both the challenges Sonos has as a network client, and why a client can’t set reserved IP addresses themselves. And also be aware that electronics, including routers, are sometimes somewhat sensitive to power fluctuation, such as caused by electrical storms and other events. And that the Sonos system, every time it is updated, requests new IP addresses from the router each and every time they’re rebooted. And that music streams, by their nature, are more sensitive to wifi interference , especially given the fact that Sonos not only maintains a connection to the stream of music, but also every other Sonos device in your network simultaneously, using networking as it has been designed, and not a single point of connection, as most devices do.
