I’m playing music to my “wired” Play 5, from my local “Music Library” located on a Synology NAS (also wired) and every few songs the music ends abruptly about 5-10 seconds before the song finishes.  It’s really jarring and has only recently started occurring.  My system is up to date and I’m predominantly using the Desktop App.

That does seem odd, and troubling. I’ve not experienced this on my playlist, stored on an NAS. Have you submitted a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and called Sonos Support to discuss it?

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

I contacted support.  They suggested I try it on wireless.  However, after about an hour its just reoccurred even using a wireless connection…  Waiting to get in contact with another support representative but none available at the moment.

I am having the same issue and it just starting happening this week.  Cuts off the last 5-10 seconds. Music library streaming wirelessly from a Lenovo laptop.

Another one getting the same problem here this is on wifi connection to a play 3 in my workshop, problem not repeated on the play 5’s in the house

Same issue here experienced on both Play 3 and Play 1’s.  Problem exists using either wifi or sonosnet. Never had this issue until downloading most recent update.

I am experiencing the early cut out on local library music too. Single Era 100 connected through wifi.

The audio files are being shared from a Libreelec SMB share that is connected to the router with ethernet.

I haven’t experienced any interruptions at the beginning or middle of a song; only a few seconds near the end.

I have done a bit of experimenting and it seems that this problem occurs with some file types but not others.

The following cuts off or mutes a few seconds before the file is done playing:

MP3

Joint stereo

205 kbps bitrate

44.1kHz

Id3 tag v2.3

Encoded with LAME 3.97

I don’t know if this file is specifically variable bit rate but other tracks from this album have different bit rates at around 200 kbps. All of these files cut off early.

The Sonos app will show the file still progressing but the speaker will stop playing audio around 10 seconds before the end of the song. Crossfade is off.

Purchased AAC files do not cut off early.

ALAC files do not cut off early (m4a container).

FLAC files do not cut off early.

MP3 files encoded at 320 kbps with LAME 3.98 or 3.99 do not cut off early.

MP3 files encoded at 320 kbps with MusicMatch do not cut off early.

Streaming services like Sonos Radio and Sound Cloud have not had trouble with the sound stopping early.

Based on this maybe a problem exists with files from specific encoders or bit rates.

My library has thousands of tracks encoded from various applications over the past 25 years; most files play fine but I just noticed the few that cut off early from the local library Sonos player.

Hope this information helps get us closer to a fix.

Same here - just started today.

I lose 5-10 seconds at the end of songs played from my NAS.

But…. I have the lineout of my Port driving an LED visualiser. Oddly the LEDs keep reacting even when I hear no audio via the speakers. i.e. the LineOut on the Port is still delivering audio even when my wireless speakers go quiet.

My audio path is as follows:…

NAS via Sonos App → Sonos speakers (wireless) + Sonos Port (wireless) → LED Visualiser

I’ve been having similar problems for the last week or so. I have two groups of speakers, one arranged as a stereo pair, the other group of 2. When it happens, one speaker goes silent for the last 20 seconds or so of the song. All my music comes from a local shared disk drive.

I’ve also had other glitches. This morning one speaker didn’t give out any sound, although the app registered it as part of the group. I detached it from the group, reattached and it then worked fine. On the weekend I was playing a playlist and suddenly the group started playing another playlist. I’ve also had groups stop playing and forget their playlist in the middle of playing something. In all these cases I was able to get things working again easily, but it’s annoying and disconcerting.

Does the Now Playing screen display any errors?

If you convert the files to something other than the VBR do they play correctly?

Same problem on my side. Playing mp3s from my Synology NAS on Era 100, using mobile IOS App. The cutting at the end happens a lot and is disturbing.

I’m having this issue as well.

Using the desktop app.

Does not happen when using the android app

Playing from a plex playlist

Does not happen when playing directly from plex.

Same songs same playlist but this just started.

I have a variety of file formats, I have not verified if it is only certain file formats.

Same here.

Supports ask me to call instead of chat.

I already submitted diagnostics.

Why can’t this be fixed? Stop wasting time of your customers.

Today’s firmware update appears to have corrected the problem on my system.  Songs from my library now play all the way through to the end without cutting off.

no errors on the now playing screen. The progress bar moves forward normally when the sound mutes on the speaker.

The problem seems to have stopped since the most recent update. I updated the app on my phone, it then updated the speakers. The files that were constantly cutting off early are now playing all the way to the end.

I am using iOS for streaming music to my Sonos Five. Ever since yesterday my songs get muted 20 seconds before ending, sometimes even earlier. Sonos keeps playing, next song is back to normal volume. I have the system set to automated updates. I have never had any issue for the last 2 years, but this drives me bonkers. Is there anything other than waiting for sonos to fix this again?

I checked - i am running on the latest versions - both on my iPhone and the Sonos system…

I have 2 fives and 2 pairs of ones. It started early last week dropping off the end of songs occasionally. I usually stream XM radio to all speakers through my home router. It has gotten progressively worse throughout the week happening more and more often to now maybe 1 of 10 songs play to the end. I just rebooted my router and unplugged all of my speakers and restarted the system. First song was fine the 2nd ended early the third was good to the end. This is really annoying any ideas? Thank you

The next time it happens, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes and call Sonos Support to discuss it.
