I still have very erratic control over the pause and volume of the Sonos system via the apps.  Bizarrely, some guy in Romania made a product called SonoPhone which reliably plays/pauses the system. I bought it, but I can’t believe that this functionality still doesn’t work.  I have just reserved IPs for all my Sonos devices on my Eero network. Are there other steps I can take to work around this bug in the Sonos-provided app?

I’m sorry to hear about your experience controlling Sonos with Play/Pause and the volume via the Sonos App. One of the recent updates resolved this issue and I’m not personally experiencing this.

I would first recommend a system and controller reboot to refresh the network connection between Sonos and your Router, starting with your Router → Sonos → Controller (phone/tablet).

If you are still having issues, Submit Diagnostics and reach out to our Support team for some live troubleshooting. They have tools at their disposal to provide you with information and advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.
