Hi, after upgrading both my Mac mini and macbook pro to Sonoma 14.0 I noticed that Sonos One works only in wireless mode. It works in ethernet mode only for apple Music app and Sonos music services app and not, for example if music or voice is played through youtube. A contact with an Apple specialist told me that other people issued the same problem, and that a new OS release could solve the problem; after about 10 days the situation didn’t change. Do you have some info or news about? Thank you very much, Gianni 48
Hi
I’ll need some more information as I’m a bit conflicted with your post. You’ve said that your Sonos One only works when wireless but works when using Ethernet, is the Sonos One wired via Eithernet or is in running through your Wi-Fi? By Sonos music service app, do you mean the Sonos app? You also said you were playing YouTube, is this via AirPlay 2?
From what I can gather, everything works except streaming audio from YouTube. If I am wrong, please correctly me and provide the above details so I can further help with this.
If you’d prefer live support, you can always reach out to our support team who have the necessary tools available to troubleshoot this issue with you.
I hope this helps!
Hi, thanks for the prompt reply. I proceed to a summary. LISTENING CONDITIONS: SONOS ONE left and right speakers in wireless. CONDITION 1. two computers are wireless (macbook connected via wifi and mac mini wirelessly WITHOUT ethernet cable): OUTCOME: in these conditions both computers transmit to Sonos the audio coming from every source - even that from the network, for example youtube - CONDITION 2. mac mini connected with network cable and macbook wirelessly - default condition of my system:
OUTCOME a: the computer in wireless (Macbook) transmits the audio from all sources to Sonos; OUTCOME b: the Mac mini (cable) DOES NOT transmit audio from YouTube. What has been described has been demonstrated with tests carried out together with an Apple specialist connected remotely to my machne and the open ticket is still active. The Apple technician assumes that the next Sonoma OS update should fix the problem. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear previously, probably due to my poor knowledge of the English language, thanks
Hi
It’s very strange that it works when wireless but not when wired, unless you’re wiring to a unsupported network device or your network does not meet our system requirements.
It’s possible the next update to your Mac OS would fix this issue for you, but I’ve not seen any other users mention having this issue. Since it seems possible for you to replicate this issue, I would recommend you reach out to our support team for further support as they have the necessary tools to troubleshoot your system with you.
I hope this helps!
Hi,
I might have the same/similar problem as Gainni48: I got a brand new Mac OS computer, which I, after delivery, immediately upgraded to Sonoma OS.
Previously, on my old Mac mini, running OS Ventura (or earlier versions ), I connected Mac mini USB > DAC (Audioquest Dragonfly) > SONOS AMP line IN - hence all wired and great quality .
(I previously used Tidal/Qobuz/Audirvana Studio on my old Apple all OK; currently doing a trial with Apple Music to compare their quality of music.)
(This SONOS AMP is connected to two speakers + REL subwoofer)
I have two more SONOS AMPs, remotely connecting speakers in various rooms.
All three SONOS AMPS are wired via ethernet (Powerline Devolo).
ALL has been working fine until now (always controlled either via my iOS phone SONOS app, or via my Apple Desktop Sonos App - setting the SONOS AMP to LINE-IN, Audio Component...):
- When I play any sound from the web browser SAFARI (e.g. Youtube, webpages,. adverts,....) from the Mac computer to the SONOS AMP wired, there is serious, unacceptable jitter.
- When, however, I disconnect this directly wired connection between my Apple computer and the SONOS AMP, and play the same sound, this jitter is gone when I set my Apple computer ‘Sound Output’ to the SONOS AMP directly (I assume therefore via Airplay?).
- This means that I cannot use the external DAC anymore between my Apple Computer, and the SONOS AMP; like Gianni48 only able to use the SONOS system in wireless mode.
- Similar to Gianni48, when I play anything on my Apple computer via ‘Apple Music’ WIRED (via the setup as described) , this is not a problem, no jitter.
- I would normally think that it is better to connect the computer wired to the SONOS AMP, as the DAC in between is of better quality that the one inside the Apple Computer?
- Are the two DACs competing perhaps (Audioquest and SONOS)?
- (I re-installed the desktop SONOS Controller v.15.9 on the new computer, just in case...but no difference, same issues.)
Thanks for your help.
I am having the same issue!
New Mac Studio with latest Sonoma installed.
When connected via ethernet I can see all my sonos rooms but can not play to any of them system sound… only from sonos app or from iTunes.
When wifi in addition is enabled I can sort of stream system sound… BUT: when I for an excample stream a youtube video it takes some seconds before sound starts, when pausing the video and unpause, I have to go back to speaker, change to a different speaker and than back to sonos in order to get sound… TOO BAD!!!
Get in contact with apple please to sort it out quick!
Thanks
hi, after ios sonoma updating, the problem described was fixed - at least for what of my concern. I also communicated to Apple Service the rresult of their update lettong them close the issue. Thanks to everybody for the answers received and various advice. Have a good day. gianni48
OK… I see there 14.1.1… will try now!
yes, turning off wifi now works… but one issue remains… I stream a youtube video, ok it takes to seconds before sound is streamed… but than pausing the video and changing to a different task, coming back to youtube takes 15-20 seconds before sound is played on my sonos...not acceptable… Any idea?
