I was just told to update the Sonos app on my iPad. It sent me to the Apple store where I downloaded and installed it.  The background of the icon has now changed to black like the old S1 app, and it lacks the ability - or I can't find it - for anything but start, stop, and volume. I can't change radio stations or select a different source.

Efforts to start a chat with support have failed; no one responds.

Yes. The app is unreliable and user interface is weak. I wish I could go back to old app but cannot. I am REALLY glad I did not upgrade my iPhone.
