So, like every *PISSED OFF* Sonos user, I’ve been struggling to make my music on my NAS accessible to my Sonos system.

I’ve now noticed (maybe with the most recent “update”) that I can now add my music library on the desktop app. Once I add it, it takes about 5-10 minutes to index, and then it will be visible on my phone.

BUT

After about 1 day, the music library disappears again and I have to re-add it.

Anyone else finding this?

This has been my problem from the start.  Have you found a solution?

The latest Sonos App is working okay here with my NAS and locally held SMB-2/3 shared library - The ‘Music Library’ entry ‘stays put’ in the App and never disappears… Might it be something on the controller device that ‘perhaps’ intermittently blocks the App connection to your local NAS? (Firewall/VPN/Security blocker etc?)

Edit: - The one thing I do see, is that some Artwork seems to be missing in some areas of the library, but hopefully that will get resolved eventually.

Mine “stays put” until I leave Wi-Fi range.  But since the app is on my phone, that happens frequently.  It’s when I return to my network that it frequently fails to load the library on the app.  On the other hand the library is always available on the web app.

I can’t say I’ve ever noticed it - I have both iPhone/iPad Sonos controllers and obviously I take my phone out with me whenever I leave Home, but to the best of my memory I’ve not noticed my local library missing from the App on either device. I’ll keep a lookout for it happening and will report back if I ever see it disappear.

I can’t help but think it may have something to do with the need for the app to run everything through the cloud.  I also have two locations with Sonos systems so when I travel between these locations the app always seems to have a difficult time recognizing the correct location/product and will frequently try to tell me that I have both products available from which to choose.  The web app, on the other hand, allows me to choose between locations.   All in all, a frustrating problem but very much a “first world problem.”

So to update

I made one tweak and one observation that may help others.

Details; My NAS is a Synology DS218j

I think what helps sometimes is to wait for a bit, if the NAS is asleep and not “findable” on the network.

The other thing is that I went to the File Services Control Panel and made the minimum SMB service available SMB2.

Doing those things has made my library usable on my phone App and my home computers.
