I have the latest 16.4.4 versions on the Sonos components,

the latest Android App , the latest IOS app  and the latest Windows App installed.

Are you aware the compilation album fragmentation issue is still present on all of these and are Sonos working on it?

I am confused as some posts claim the issue is fixed yet many others state that the problem still exists.

I’d like some clarity on whether Sonos acknowledge the issue and are working on it

Same issue here and I refuse to edit my tags, I have  more than 1000 albums. iTunes and heos are working fine

The reason I tag all my music files is to avoid exactly what happened with Sonos.  Sonos is not the only software I’ve encountered that does not react well to partially tagged files.  I never used iTunes or Windows Media Player because of the way they handle metadata.  I’ll take care of the tagging thank you!

So stick with iTunes & Heos.

Thanks. Not detaching my collection.  Which Sonos had no problem with until recently.   Am interested in whether the team at Sonos is still working on restoring this capability.  Thanks for any info on that score.

I reported this problem in July, case number ********, and  am still experiencing this problem with  compilation albums. Each track is displayed as a separate album. This makes it impossible to listen to any compilation album by selecting just one album. I have my music on iMac music. The only work around seems to be by access the music library via the folders option on Sonos and then the compilation folder. This problem has existed for several months. Please Sonos can you provide a more comprehensive response other than this is fixed for some and we are investigating? This is very unhelpful to those of us still experiencing the problem which I reported 4 months ago.

Moderator edit: recorded and removed case number

I don’t see why itunes cannot handle this as it should be, it’s using the Gracenote media database. Which seems legit/standard to me. Sonos should use the same options/info as before.

 Why I don’t use iTunes.

Thanks.  Appreciate that others may not use iTunes, but many do.  Sonos had no problem recognizing compilations, which are specifically tagged.  And then it didn’t.   If there is someone on this forum who can answer the question I posed - and that Phil apparently posed four months ago - we would appreciate it.   Thanks.

There are some tagging software that has a check box that, when checked, marks the album as a compilation.  What I don’t understand is how does software know an album is a compilation without that check box or without the Album Artist being the same for all tracks.

 Maybe someone can enlighten me.

The only thing I can think of is if the software accesses a database of known compilation albums and knows then how to organize those albums.  How did Sonos do it with the pre May 16.x app?

iTunes has such a box, and Sonos used to recognize it.  It does not do so now.  MoPac, the question I am now focused on answering is not why or how (way above my pay grade) but whether Sonos is still trying to solve this problem.  If anyone, including folks at Sonos, knows the answer, please weigh in.  Thank you.

Indeed, I started digitalizing my collection in the ipod era. Itunes was the only option. Starting from scratch or editing will take ages.

I started way-back-when also.  mostly been using DbPoweramp to rip.  In the DbPoweramp settings I set only the tags I want filled in.  Before DbPoweramp I used JRiver Media Center for ripping.  Still use JRiver for playlist creation then I edit the playlist to use “relative path” statements which allows the playlist to work in any location.  For downloads all the tagging was done manually with the DbPoweramp tag editor.  Download tags are all over the map, particularly classical tags.

Never liked iTunes because of the tag issues with WAV files and the lack of support for FLAC files.

Yes… tagging is a pain in the butt.  I tagged a friend’s 2TB library which took around a year.  Of course I only did a little at a time when I had a half hour or so of free time.  During that year+ I had use of his Melco N1 so not a total pain in the butt.

Same issue, spent time with support in November who could not fix it, gave me a case number and referred to specialist support who told me a known issue for some users and they are looking at it.

New release deployed but still the same issue……...
