Music Library and SONOS S1

Two part question and appreciate any help.  I recently upgraded my Synology NAS and my S1 speakers/software can no longer access the music library on this device. My S(2) has no issues. I’ve tried changing the settings of SMB1 protocol (minimum) and also enable NTLMv1 authentication. This has not worked. Are there any other settings I should be looking at to get this to work?

Also, I was told I’d be contacted by Level 2 help about a week ago. No word yet. Does this ever happen or should I consider that they are done helping me with the issue?

Thank you

I would think, if the settings are as you say, both systems should be able to access the data.

I suspect there may be something else going on. I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

If your S2 system has no issues accessing your NAS, then it must be set to SMB V2 or 3. The S1 systems are only compatible with SMB V1 and there is no way (that I know of) to have both systems use a single NAS.

Someone else may have found a way, but I have settled with using the S2 app for my local library and streaming services on the S1 system.

Thanks for the reply. That’s interesting. Does that mean if I remove the music library from my S2, it would then work with the S1 assuming SMB V1 minimum is set?

FYI, I have SMB1 minimum and SMB3 maximum set to utilize all three versions.

Thanks Bruce, I did that with support and they couldn't resolve but told me they put in a level 2 request and I would be hearing from them. That was about a week ago, so I’m not sure I actually will :).

I suspect, eventually, you will, but I do imagine there are a lot of requests for that type of support right now. If you already have a contact point, I’d give them a nudge, even if that means calling in again.

My OpenMediaVault-based file server has SMB1 set as its minimum and our S1, pre-fiasco S2, and up-to-date S2 systems can all access our music. So it’s definitely possible.

If it helps, my SMB settings for OpenMediaVault include both “lanman auth = yes” and “ntlm auth = yes”. I couldn’t tell you if lanman is the magic sauce here, nor why I originally included it some years back. I know it’s a deprecated setting and pretty weak.

My Music share is marked “Guests allowed” and “Browseable”. My Sonos systems connect without userid and password.

As an aside, it’s pretty annoying to have to downgrade security settings because S2 is no longer usable for us after the May fiasco. I was happily using SMB3 on my NAS and WPA3 on my WiFi until I had to re-establish that S1 system.

Can’t seem to find lanman anywhere?

No luck otherwise with the changes but thanks for the help.
