I use my Sonos speakers 100% for listening to music, primarily through my music library on a stored NAS. My experience has more or less come back to baseline from the new app rollout. One thing that’s still missing that I found to be quite a helpful feature was the vertical side alphabet of the music library so I could quickly tap on a letter and immediately jump to that part of my library. I know you can search specifically within the music library now but am still longing for the side scroll. Any idea when (or if) that might be coming back?
This was a feature of the old Sonos app and 3rd party apps such as SonoPhone still have that feature and it works fine with the latest Sonos firmware on the speakers, so I am not sure why Sonos removed it from the new app.
Ross.
I’d love to know if alphabetic scrolling is on the list of fixes to this awful upgrade. Like others with extensive music libraries, trying to scroll down the alphabet is tedious, slow, and just plain stupid. It seems that the Sonos developers have no first-hand experience actually listening to their own music libraries. If one’s listening habits doesn’t conform to the only choice Sonos seems to prioritize - streaming via Spotify or the other subscription services - you’re just shit out of luck.

I totally agree with your comments. I have seen a comment from
I suspect that this is still well down their priority list, but such functionality will no doubt be added back at some stage.
FYI: If you are on IOS, SonosPhone works well for local music library and has alphabetic positioning!

On the same subject of moving through a long list it would be nice to at least have a scroll bar show that you can grab and pull up or down the queue. I figured when the queue editing is returned that scrolling would also be part of that fix. Not so sure now after one of the updates only added Clear Queue. Queue also needs to follow the music progress.
This is why I haven’t listened to Warren Zevon in four months.
You need to listen to AC-DC!

The 22-20s are getting a lot of play.

I have also found myself listening to 10cc a lot.
ABC.. Top band… literally!!
The new app can’t really handle large lists at all well, and this is likely why alpha-jump hasn’t been implemented.

It seems ok at handling large lists of bugs and missing features…
SonoPhone does alpha-jump. At least with my local library which is fairly substantial.

I’m glad to see there’s at least one person around here who listens to music from the 21st century :)
Just piling on. Lack of alphabetical jump list makes building a playlist from “My library” impossible. No playlist = non-functional app.
The search feature in the new Sonos App is pretty quick to search the local library, even by a single letter…
A search bar is for “searching” - it implies a “known” destination . Alphabetical jump list is for “browsing”. I browse my catalog and when something strikes my fancy, I add it to the playlist. I think many people are like-minded. This is the hill I’m going to die on re: restoration of prior app functionality
And sidebar: … album art is displaying intermittently at best in library and in now playing
