I have legacy units at my home - four Play5s, two Connect Amps, and two Connects. They all sound good and find no reason to replace them.  And yes, I obviously use the S1 app.

For over a year now, only my two Connects are able to play music from my library. I use a Synology NAS. The only way my other units get to play music from my library is when I group them with any Connect. Otherwise attempting to play my library directly through the Play5s or Amp would only show that access to the NAS is denied even though I've made sure SMB 1 to 3 are enabled in my NAS.

Can anyone tell me why library access is allowed only for the Connect units? Have I missed checking anything else here?

By the way, there is no problem with streaming any music service. But I built my system for my vast music collection.

Over the last few years operating systems have become anal about user names and passwords. A long time ago I was not using passwords for my NAS shares and everyone was happy about that. Later I had to remove the NAS shares from my SONOS system and set them up again — this time giving passwords.

Offhand, I don’t know why some of your models are complaining. First, I’d reboot the PLAY:5’s.

Is your system up to date? If so, as a trial, power down all of your PLAY:5’s except one. Factory Reset this unit and add it to your system. Take care not to setup a new system. If this reset player can access the NAS library, reset the other PLAY:5’s.

Another, slightly more risky, approach would be to delete and reenter the library.

Yet another research trial would be to establish a new music folder on the NAS, fill it with a few nonsense music tracks and add this folder to your library.  You’ll need to enter the password. If tracks in this folder play everywhere, this is proof that you need to setup the full library again.

Try the above, if it doesn’t work play something from the library from a working Sonos and one that doesn’t work. Submit a diagnostic and note the number, call Sonos with it and ask them to look into your issue.

Don’t post the diagnostic number here.
