I’ve been using the SONOS s2 desktop app for OS to keep access to my MacBook Pro’s local music library throughout this madness with the mobile app “upgrade”. But yesterday I went to update my music library again and it resulted in the removal of my library from the app without warning.
I tried to readd it only to discover updates to the app had been pushed through as I was now getting new prompts to change my MacBook Pro’s sleep settings, and then errors in re-adding the library.
After getting sufficiently pissed off at SONOS all over again, and scouring the forums, I found the changes/workarounds that were being recommended to make it work: enabling File Sharing, adding the Music folder to Shared Folders, enabling SMB File Sharing, allowing Windows File Sharing which means less security, giving SONOS permission to read the Music folder, then adding my music library to the app as if it was on a NAS drive, putting in the correct pathway, entering username & password.
After taking a lot longer than normal to re-index, ^ this worked except there are 0 imported playlists showing in the S2 app now where all my playlists from my Music (formerly iTunes) app had been before.
The folder I shared is the main music folder so any library files needed for the Music library indexing would be included.
1. Is this normal/expected for setting it up as the music as on a NAS, or am I doing something wrong that can be fixed?
2. Is this NAS setup a temporary workaround until mid-June* when the update to the mobile app is expected?
3. Will playlists from the Music app be supported with the upcoming updates to the app? I don’t see playlists specifically mentioned.
* just found the latest post on updates and “create and edit local music library” is now included as a separate item and for “July”. Why did they break this functionality in the desktop app if they knew it would be weeks before it could be readded to the mobile app??
