There is currently an issue with searching Spotify for artists within the Sonos app. As you are on S1 software, the best workaround for you would be to put your search term in “quotes” - that seems to help get results from Spotify, and does not interfere with getting results from elsewhere.
As for SoundCloud, there was a service outage recently - perhaps you were affected by that? It seems to have cleared now, so it may be worth trying again.
If none of this helps, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.
