In the past - about 8 years ago - it was possible to manage the volume of your Sonos system by using the ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ buttons on your smartphone. Due tue an update of the Sonos app, it wasn’t possible anymore. From the 7th of may, Sonos released a new Sonos app, and I hoped Sonos reintroduced this function. Unfortunately still the only way tho manage the volume of the Sonos system is by swiping on your screen (to the left and right) of your smartphone. I hope, that Sonos in the future will consider to reintroduce the old school function by pressing the plus and minus buttons!

Unfortunately, this was not Sonos’ doing.  Apple has for a long time banned controlling 3rd party hardware from the hard buttons or lock screen controls of iOS.  Sonos had been using a hack which consisted of playing a silent track in the background to fool iOS into thinking the controller app was a media player, and therefore could use the hard buttons and lock screen controls for control of volume.  Apple recently cracked down on that hack and told Sonos to cease using it or risk being banned from the Apple App Store.
