Hello! I’d like to submit a feature request that the search functionality for Apple Music in the Sonos app be improved.

Here’s the problem: Using the web app you’d like to listen to the album Exile on Main Street by The Rolling Stones. You open the app and search “Exile on Main Street”

The first nine results are not the album Exile on Main Street, but instead a link to The Rolling Stones artist page, radio stations created by individual songs on the album, some other unrelated artist pages, and some individual songs.

When you click “View More” to try to find the album in full to play, the album is the very first result!

This same process is very similar to the iOS app, unusable results at first, then when you click “Apple Music” the album is displayed first.

Cutting out that two step process to find an album would be a massive user improvement. Not sure if the same problem exists for Spotify, etc.

Hi @cookbooks

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Don’t quote me, but I think it may be the services who decide which results are shown first.

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

Ah interesting!

Do you happen to know if the issue I described happens with Spotify and Amazon Music?

Hi @cookbooks

With the current combination of my own accounts and a couple of test accounts (so this is in no way exhaustive) that I have not yet got around to removing, I see the following when searching for “exiles on main street”:

  • YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Spotify and Tidal all show “Exiles on Main Street” Album as the first result, or as the second result after “The Rolling Stones” as Artist (Amazon did this).
  • Apple Music is (alone in) opting to show songs in the main search page rather than albums, so I do not see Exiles until tapping on More, then it is the first result, just as you reported.

So, it indeed seems like this is a deliberate choice made by Apple - we can pass on the feedback for you, but I honestly think your feedback will have more clout with Apple if it is coming directly from a paying customer.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for checking Corry!

You are most welcome, @cookbooks!
