I rarely move the volume control out of the leftmost third of its range, often struggle to get a volume level that suits.
There’s space to make the volume control slider much bigger. This would allow much finer-grained control of the selected volume.
You might consider making it less linear as well - a large movement at low volume changing the volume more than the same movement at high volume.
