Ref ⬇️ to two other similar posts that have gotten closed without definite answers on an ESSENTIAL feature that we all had “before appaggedon”. 

🛎 Why has Sonos Favorites order (stations or playlists or combo) something so essential for daily use of the Sonos ecosystem not been brought back immediately? What is the logic the Sonos Ui/UX teams used for the “no choice, locked, re-ordering” of user’s favorites?  ...and that logic works in which monocultural planet? 

If one has adopted and adapted the alphabetical order feature for years to the point of even adding numbers or other signs (as order management hacks) in order to organize ‘priority stations’ by groups, from top to bottom, why now is it so multi-step lengthy to get to the stations one had at the top? First clicking on “Sonos Favorites” then on “Stations” or “Playlists” and on top of that many of the stations yield another page with an extra button. The concept of immediacy is not registering on Sonos UX/UI “human centered design” mindsets, not one bit and not democratically. The CEO’s letter talks about an order of fixes, but this, alphabetical order or SORT OPTIONS (like many platform apps) is not being granted in the ecosystem of ecosystems, the one ecosystem that needs it the most.  Sonos, you know this is ain’t right and the fix on “simple dailies” is taking too long!  Consider the two topics that your community managers cancelled (referenced) above and add this request, multiply it by the many thousands who don’t create the time in the day to let you know ...I mean, it took me months just to add this sonos-community-task to my schedule (should not even be necessary to let you know of something so obvious). 

There is not even a temporary solution for re-alphabetizing or re-tricking the names (editing names) won’t do a thing as order seems (extremely illogical and willy-nilly) locked!! Why Sonos? Actually the question -back to the subject line is 🛎️ WHEN SONOS? WHEN?

Upon this fix, will one be able to manage the 3 Sonos Favorites rows up and down? Say I want Stations (1), Playlists (2) and Recently Played (3) ...do not assume for the plurality of users!  Look at iOS Reminders for inspiration on this simple request.

Please do not archive this post without a solid answer.

Forum threads that get closed are rarely closed ‘for a reason’, and not in my experience because Sonos doesn’t want to discuss an issue. They do get closed automatically when there is no activity in a thread. You’ve done the correct thing by opening a new thread, but I’d recommend that call Sonos Support directly to discuss your concern. 

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.


Thanks @Airgetlam I will keep in mind, however, this topic seems compelling to me and seemingly “a few” others as it was an essential (for granted) part of the previous app and for every person that speaks up in forums (here or Reddit) there are so many others who may have the same need but do not bother. I am hoping it catches some traction as I can’t seem to be OK with such a basic need. 

If you have an opinion on the actual topic, feel free to add. Thanks for your other point, time is of the essence so I may schedule such call when possible. 


If you have a PC the desktop app still ,has the function to rename Favourites.  I named mine starting with number (i.e. 5, 10, 15, 20 etc).  They are automatically sorted into that order and this is reflected next time you open the mobile app.


Hi ​@KiwiTony I do use the “good ole” mac-os app where I rename to my liking. The sorting order does work on macOS (like on your Windows), the stations’ edited names sure transfer, however, the sorting order from computer app is not reflected on mobile app (latest update) at all, and mobile app does not offer sorting options. Sonos Favorites / Stations > Edit, only results in delete (red) buttons and no sorting order at all, not alphabetical, not with any logic. See image below, notice stations from different sources (music & radio platforms), notice some of the rename/edits done on macOS (emoji or parentheses for instance), notice no abc order. We are radio-intense here so every single favorite slot is filled, thus, our need for the intended alphabetical order as old Sonos app used to reflect. 

 

 


Hi Multiculti,  I recently had to re-setup my Sonos system (router failure) , I did most of it through the PC and my numbering sequence transferred fine, BUT on reading your response above I checked again and a couple of Spotify playlists I added later on my iPad and then renamed on the PC didn’t appear in the right place on the iPad. When I originally moved to Sonos 2 I found that it seemed to  allocate the order of  Favourites in the reverse order that they were created, i.e. latest appear first.  So I deleted them all and  recreated them in the reverse order that I wanted them to appear.  This worked until I started adding extras.

So I guess, I am now waiting for Sonos to provide a solution like everyone else.  It doesn’t seem to be a major enhancement, all they would have to do  is to add a “move” button to the edit screen you show above.


Exactly my case ​@KiwiTony, from the image above Feel Good was the last station I added, before that The In-Sound -where the intention for (The) after station name was for alphabetical order. Out of 30 slots (or all Fav spaces allowed in Stations) I even have a few with a * or ° to show up at the top and now those are all over the place! I have to first click Sonos Favorites, then scroll down to Stations, then scroll all the way down to find ° 6 Music or ° FiP or ° Sleep ...and then depending on the platform one more click to play it.

Too many clicks and scrolls. This ain’t right and it makes me wonder if Sonos as a firm has a true diversity of users as an ongoing focus group, because this, in particular for audio-intense, or multiple members or multicultural families seems quite obvious of a need.


I noticed that the Home edit screen uses exactly the method I was suggesting to reorder the elements on the home screen.  So I sent an email to the Sonos CEO (who, of course, doesn’t read them but gets his PA to pass them on to the relevant person).  This is the response I got:

Your email has been forwarded by our CEO Patrick. Due to the high volume of incoming messages, Patrick is unable to respond to each one individually. Therefore, a case has been generated in our customer care system and escalated to my department for further review and to address the feedback you provided.

My name is Angus, I’m a member of the Escalation Team here at Sonos Support.

Tony, I really appreciate you reaching out and sharing your thoughts on the favorites ordering in the new Sonos app. Your suggestion about a "move" button to rearrange favorites is a great idea and something that could certainly enhance usability.

While I can't provide a specific timeline for when or if this feature might be implemented, I want you to know that your feedback is incredibly valuable to us. I'll make sure it gets to our development team so they can consider it in future updates

It seems (to me) like a miss on Sonos part when both Favorites (stations and playlists) used to allow alphabetical order by tricking the names (numbers, signs, editing pronouns, etc.) before appageddon and now it’s “just a consideration” as if they were doing us -loyal old time users- a favor. It shows holes in the training on new employees answering this type of email requests or complaints.
