I currently am using Sonos 79.01-53290. Like many people, either this or the disastrous Sonos App for iOS and Android or both, I suffered the infamous Error 913 file sharing problem. Fortunately for me, but not for everyone, there was a solution posted on Sonos Community that was a workaround. It took a good month to fix that. And the solution DID NOT come from Sonos help desk but from Sonos Community.

I have since stuck to no more updates hoping error free/stable software would eventually come.

While I have a choice NOT to update to the latest software, my S2 controller (79.01-53290) now will not allow me to update my NAS music library unless I download the latest version of S2 --- Sonos euphemously says “you will have limited functionality unless you update”. Now thta’s limited functionality alright.

I went to the Sonos download page and downloaded without executing the latest version and I can see it says Version 80.1-55014.

Questions: Does this work? Any known bugs? Is this S2 Version16.2? 16.3?

The “sincere apology” the Sonos CEO sent pointed to a link that detailed version updates to Sonos App for iOS and Android. Nothing on the S2.

Thanks

Hi @EPic, for your consideration: Windows desktop app v16.3 (aka 80.1-55014) will force a system update to device firmware v16.3.1.  If you are already on that firmware, I think you’re ‘safe’ to update the desktop app. If you’re on an earlier firmware, well, you have more to think about.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you for your reply.  … where do I find out what version of firmware I have? My cuuret workign S2 is 79.01-53290. What version of “firmware” is that?

Thanks

You see, the desktop Settings Menu is grayed out until I update !!!!

Hi @EPic, in the Windows desktop app, select the Help menu and click About My Sonos System. That will list each of your Sonos devices. Find a line starts Version: and you’ll see the firmware revision. Mine reads “Version: 16.3.1 (build 80155240)” which is the latest.

Ah I found out under Help/About My Sonos System, its says Sonos OS16.3.1.

So I am good to go?

Thnaks

Good thank you. I was busy searching didn’t see your reply. Thank You!

Hi @EPic, I think you’re good to go. The Windows desktop app has changed very little … ironically the most noticeable changes have been notifications bugging you to upgrade the firmware.

Thank you sir. Everything is working but I am not touching my iOS App.

You just spared me another 70 minutes wait time with Sonos!

DON’T UPDATE YOUR MUSIC LIBRARY on 16.3.1

… if you have any compilation albums… you’ll regret it big time…

Ian, could you expand a little on what the issue is? I don’t think I have “compilation albums”. Rather i have individual compositions/works/renditions/songs grouped under folders by artist. Is that an issue?

What is the alternative? Does the “contrite CEO” of Sonos expect us to not change our music library? Everything is grayed out unless you update -- which is the same as a forced update.

For S2 to work is for more important for me than for the twice a week update of the Sonos App for iOS and Android. I don’t flip burgers by the swimming pool toggling between Spotify and Apple Music. My NAS stores collection of jazz built over the years. Sonos is simply pathetic. Mr CEO mentioned zip about S2.

Is 16.3.1 a particular version of 16.3?

Thanks
