Recent update to Sonos app on Android and now cannot see controls anywhere except within the app itself. No lock screen controls, nothing in notifications bar, physical volume buttons don't control volume. Anyone else experiencing this? Pixel 5 with Android 14.
I read on Reddit that these were deliberately removed in the updated app. There was a comment that they will come back at a later stage but they aren't on the official list of upcoming fixes/features unfortunately.
I used this feature all the time and it also showed up on my watch. , I didn't think anything of it and just now realizing there is no option for the notification. Hope they can put it back sooner than later...
Yeah, it's terrible this feature went away. I just invested thousands more in Sonos speakers and they can't even take the time to respond to this issue here in their own community forums. I wish there were other options out there with similar wireless functionality and equivalent speaker sound quality but too late for me now even if there is. Stuck with Sonos.
Anyone seen any updates on this. So frustrating cannot control in notifications bar or lock screen or my watch.... had for years snd now do not?
Nothing yet...and I have not heard any new developments on this subject.
On another thread
Not working for me. And no settings options either.
At this point it's just so frustrating... When are we getting the notification bar and lock screen back? How is this not one of the top priorities??? I went all on on Sonos just before they broke the app. How annoying is it to go in and out of the app vs just having the controls available like every other app? What about the widget??? Come on now!!
They say 90% of the app has been restored, but, we're still waiting on this feature.
I realize they had some major issues and have fixed many of them. I just don't use it as much without the notification control feature, and actually hope they bring it back.
Still waiting on this BASIC feature, Sonos!! Really wish I could get my money back for this now horrible product that they ruined!!
December and still asking about this feature. Need this back. Its hard for me to even justify using my Sonos speakers without this feature.
Keeping this bookmarked until there is a fix.
Also bookmarking. I refuse to purchase additional speakers until this is resolved.
Apparently, Sonos thinks it's ok for people to have to wait at least 30 freaking seconds in order to mute their music or change a song! I'm so tired of this! It seriously takes me AT LEAST 30 seconds of waiting for the app to reopen, search for the Sonos system, and load whatever is playing in order to make any adjustment to whatever I have playing!
Most often, delays are caused by network issues, between your controller and router, or the router and the speakers. I’d certainly check the wifi interference FAQ, as well as performing a Sonos network refresh, by unplugging your Sonos devices from power (or powering them off, if battery connected), and rebooting your router. Once the router has recovered, power back on your Sonos devices. This will give them both a fresh IP address, as well as a refresh of the Sonos OS. Finally, check your system for updates, in case there are any that need to be applied.
However, should that not fix your issue, which I am not experiencing on my system , I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it.
There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
This update is the worst. Why on earth is this functionality still not here? Well to be honest I rarely use the Sonos app, I use Spotify 95% of the time when at home. But now Spotify connect has been boken for atleast 4 days for me. So controlling Sonos is now one of the most frustrating things. Come on already
Just adding myself to the (seemingly very large) list of people who would really like to have this feature.

Sonos made some major errors with the update and is struggling to recover.
They are prioritizing fixing stuff based on how important they think the feature is to users.
Everybody wishes the fixes were coming faster.
Still no quick access control on android, how clumsy is that?
Must be something about rights and money tobIOS and Android
Hmmm... Sono speakers alternative anyone?
Should also work with YM and Spotify
Xxxx
Just piling on here to express the same concern.
The music services Sonos has access too (typically) don't have access to cast to the Sonos directly. Those that do, sometimes lack the ability to control the volume which means switching back and forth between the music app and the Sonos app.
So just using the Sonos app is the answer? Not quite… No direct controls outside of the app means waiting for it to boot up each time. Additionally, the direct controls (outside of the basics such as finding new music) are inferior to the native music app… so I end up starting music in Sonos, then opening the native app just to find new music. This means juggling two apps again.
Okay so maybe I can just cast all the audio from my phone to the device? Nope, not supported.
I'm a new customer and I'll be honest, Sonos you're driving away swathes of customers. At least give us the ability (even temporarily) to use Bluetooth or cast to the device itself and mirror the audio of our device. At best, I have a beautiful speaker that is cumbersome to use. At worst, it's going to become an unused paperweight. I'm currently in the former category but the longer this goes on the more likely I am to simply try to get a refund and move on to less complicated solutions with companies that value functionality over premium features.
I don’t know how this came about on Android, but not having screen/button control on iOS was Apple’s fault. They do not allow remote control apps acces to these functions. The driving away of customers seems to be caused by others and is out of Sonos’ control.
As a work around - if starting the app every time is cumbersome, why not leave the app open?
Your profile says you own a (bluetooth capable) Era 100. So you could use bluetooth.

Good to know about the Apple situation, I was not aware. However, we aren’t Apple users and it makes me think Sonos is simply catering to their perceived largest demographic. We aren’t Apple users, why do we have an Apple-based feature? Heck, I’d take a simple widget to control it outside of the app.
Bluetooth: I did not even know this was a feature of this specific speaker, thanks! This does come at the cost of audio quality, but I’ll do what I need to. Appreciate the heads up!
Issues with leaving the app open: It’s my primary phone and I often minimize the app and android “sleeps” unused apps after a certain amount of time. This means it has to boot up again every time I want to make an adjustment, which can take a while when all I want to do is skip songs or change the volume. I do not, as I have read many users do, have a spare phone to act as a general remote for the speaker.
Today I decided to play my music through my OLED65G2PUA LG G2 65-inch OLED evo Gallery Edition TV. This allows me to use through my notification area of my phone, I can adjust volume easily, and I have a widget for my TV controls. Sonos is my sound of tv, so it works great. The screen is not on, just running my phone through the TV with quick ease of controls and not having to use the app, which was challenging to play my music. I should of done this a long time ago! And I can use my watch to control the music, which is a great convenience! Maybe one day the app will have these capabilities again.
Just figured I'd update some of my Play1 surrounds to Era 100s. More fool me, first was it wasn't clear that when used as surrounds their Bluetooth capability would be dropped, second and more importantly for how I use my speakers, it meant I was forced onto the new app. Eh, I have a tablet running it somewhere, no biggy. Oh no. The Eras force updates to the rest of the speakers which renders the old app unusable. Forced onto the unintuitive, laggy new app. But the crowning issue is no banner control for me. No plan from Sonos to re add it either. Can't control my roam from my watch because there's no notification. Do I regret my purchase? You bet. Should have just got some Ones 2nd hand.
