Hello, I have been using three Sonos speakers for years and they still work perfectly, BUT they are not compatible with Airplay.   If I buy one newer Sonos speaker that is Airplay compatible, will that effectively make the whole system Airplay compatible?

Yes, in so far that you'd Airplay to the new speaker and group that with the old speakers. see https://support.sonos.com/article/group-and-ungroup-rooms

I can't see what speakers you won but if they are S1 only, you need to buy an S1 compatible speaker.  See https://support.sonos.com/article/sonos-s2-compatibility

It’s also fairly simple to make all Sonos speakers directly compatible with AirPlay, if you have a little technical know-how:

https://github.com/philippe44/AirConnect, which works very well indeed.

If you can get your hands on a Raspberry Pi, take a look at:
