Now that legacy TuneIn is gone from the new (buggy) iOS controller and all my custom radio stations (in my case from Digitally Imported di.fm)  were gone and there is no information on the Sonos site I luckily found a way to get them back. However it involves recreating them which can be labour intensive depending on how many you have. You will also need the IOS version of TuneIn for this to work. No premium sign up required.

Here are the instructions from TuneIn https://help.tunein.com/en/support/solutions/articles/151000172377-what-is-a-custom-url-and-how-can-i-add-it-to-sonos-

The Custom URL feature allows you to listen to a private streaming URL, most likely not in the TuneIn directory, using the TuneIn and Sonos app.

To add a custom URL to your Sonos:

  1. Ensure that TuneIn (new) is added on your Sonos app
  2. Log into the iOS or Android TuneIn app using the same TuneIn credentials you use on Sonos
  3. On the TuneIn app, navigate to Library
  4. Tap on customURL and enter the desired stream URL
  5. While listening to that stream, tap the favorite (heart) icon on the now playing screen
  6. Select “favorite station”
  7. Enter a name for the custom stream
  8. Return to TuneIn (new) on your Sonos app, and you should now see that station in your favorites gallery there.

So far this works fine on my system.

The TuneIn app doesn't add the manual URL to the favourites, doesn't accept the name after typed

Hello community,

I’ve followed the various steps outlined in here but can’t add the custom URLs to my favorites in TuneIn or in Sonos, and so DI.FM is playing through TuneIn, with ads. I cannot stand ads.

Is there another workaround available to fix this issue, that anybody is aware of?

Thank you.

Wow thecaretakerUKL and starflyergold. It actually works, but man is this complicated!

Try this solution:

Is it me or in the Sonos iOS app, I don’t see the “favorites” section ?!?

And how the F!ck do we edit that TuneIn list to remove or chage order of those useless station they try to force me to listen, I’m no Footballfan, why is this and Garth Brooks (I never once listent to a country station) on the top of my TuneIn ?!?

The recent section is not listin my recent play… I used my Win app version, old TuneIn list click on URL, it plays ithout a problem, add to Sonos Favorite… but they are grey out in the mobile app, I can’t play them from the mobile app…

Sonos realy need to integrate the URL fonction in the system without a 3rd partie app.

I contacted customer support about this, and they stated that the custom radiostations have disappeared from the app due to an issue which they're working on. As I understood, the radiostations are still there and will be visible again in a future update.

Hi! I’m from November, in the future! They aren’t back yet. Unless you do what I did which was downgrade back to S1 and re-add them all to TuneIn one by one.

See you in time!

(do you hear that flapping? At this point, I’m flying away)

I am on Android, I did have this workaround working for a short time, but now I have 2 issues (app updates to both TuneIn and Sonos during this time)

  1. TuneIn will not favourite a custom URl any more - I can enter it, it plays in the app, I can press the heart button to add it to favourites, it asks for a name, if I go to library, the number next to the favourites section has not increased, but the custom url is listed if I open the favourites section.
  2. As above, if I go to TuneIn within Sonos there is no section for favourites, so even if the above worked I still wouldn’t be able to ccess the custom URl in Sonos

Seems that Sonos is increasingly becoming useless.
