Recently purchased a new Play5. During the set up I upgraded the controller to S2. Discovered that two Play 1’s in separate rooms have dropped off of the room tabs. Have reset them, turned of the controllers and turned off the router but they still don’t display. 
 

what is the solution to get them to present in the right place?

I appreciate your effort in going those troubleshooting steps, to better understand what’s going on,  please submit a diagnostic report through the Sonos app, and reply with the confirmation number. I'd start by reviewing your system and go from there, it will help in identifying what's possibly causing the issue.
