To turn off the music, hit the pause/stop button.
For the app, you have to go into the recent apps menu (left of the home button) and either swipe it off or hit the X, depending on your version of Android.

What do you mean? You can force-quit the app by hitting the Overview/Recent button and swiping the app away. If it's the notification which bothers you, either dismiss it (it will reappear the next time the controller app is opened) or totally disable it via Advanced Settings.
