So today Microsoft announced their "Universal Windows Platform Bridges" that will allow iOS and Android developers to quickly bring their existing iOS or Android app code base to the Windows platform and create an universal Windows app.  What’s SONOS excuse for not releasing an official app for Windows 10 going to be except for pure laziness?

Can't believe we are all still here and wondering where the app is. As usual no information at all from Sonos. I hate you Sonos.
C,mon Sonos, It's time.  no more rumours or pointing us at 3rd party apps.  Windows 10 is coming, porting iOS or android is now simple, universal apps will allow you to create a single app that will run on a PC, tablet or phone.......

It is getting really annoying.
There is this app, which can be used apparently by specific people but not by all of us. Why is this so? They do not seem to be internal sonos employees.
Could you please give us some information on this app.
I can understand that you do not comment any new products or feature you might have in development. But this app is essential for the use of your current products, as you do not offer and support the Sonos Control anymore.
So please give us information on this point.

Can you name another multi-room streaming device that has a Windows Phone app?

Bose - No.

Denon - No.

Samsung - No.

LG - No.

Bluesound - No.

It is hardly "unbelievable" when 5 competitors also do not support Windows, is it?

And I thought the idea of an innovative company is to be the first adding new features and not to follow the competitors. I must have misunderstood this part...

They just may be the first. You never know.

Maybe. But the main problem in this topic is the sonos customer communication. This topic is alive since 3 years. And also under consideration since then. Do you really need 3 years to think about doing an app for windows? To be fair, no big request on this forum has been implemented. It is always about new streaming services... I can understand that big requests take some time, but 3 years. The reaction time of sonos is extremely slow. You can also refer to the right management thread. Sonos is answering on this topic on a regular 6 month basis, given us no information but encouraging us to keep following. In this for years now. Do you treat your customers this way? This is like "just feed these stupid windows users with some hope, to assure that they stay with us. Apple ftw!" The survey was going in the same direction. It was about how we want to use the app on windows. Well in exact the same way as in ios or android!!! Was there really a need to ask this? Or just a way to give windows user the impression that there is finally something going on. But now the beta or alpha app has been leaked for months now and the only comment we get is: There will be no news in the near future and we do not comment on features we work on. This shows another time that sonos is not willing to give us any kind of support. It just gives again a little hope that maybe in a far future there might be an app. There is already an app. Why is it not released? it seems to run well regarding the comments from the users which can strangely use it?! And now I have to read that you answered a user that you want to support apple music as fast as possible when you got in contact with apple for it. This service isn't released yet and it was announce a few days ago. Apparently you can take decisions quite fast. But I get it. This is about apple. When we're looking at Xbox music requested since years. There is nothing... What shall we conclude from this? Windows or Microsoft haters in your management? In any case when it comes to customer service it is a big mess. Thanks for treating us as trash after spending averaged thousand $ each for your system.

The answer is probably here.
2.7% Windows phone market share doesn't make it attractive for a mass market product.
Maybe Windows 10 will change the game - I think it wouldn't be stupid from Sonos to deliver a Windows controller the day Windows 10 is released (just a personal opinion, I have zero information about this).

@ Jgatie,
I know. I was talking more in general ;)
@ Christophe
I know about these market share statistics. But are they really relevant or reliable for sonos? Do they give any information about potential sonos customers. The main part are low budget phones, where the users most likely won't be Sonos customers.
But anyhow this could be a long discussion.
The main problem in this demand is, that Sonos is refusing to answer the simple question:
Will there be a Windows Phone app yes or no?
They have taken a decision about this. This topic is on since over 3 years. They had enough time. The only question is: Why don't they tell us?
The statement "we do not talk about planned staff" is bullshit. (see the apple music topic, or every idea which is marked as planned)
Yes of course the market share is an argument. But they never mentioned it. Why? Do they fear saying this would offend their windows customers? If they are not relevant, this should not be a problem.
The only answer we get is, "There is nothing new to share. But we appreciate your feedback". For what? 3 years of feedback didn't change anything. What are they expecting?
But the most funny thing is. They have a working windows 8 app since months. Why do not publish it or give us a statement on which point they are?

@Cristophe,
I would also like to add that worldwide stats are a little misleading as it applies to Sonos. As Leo rightly said a huge amount of these are cheap Androids sold in the developing world that aren't much better than feature phones, Sonos, as a luxury brand, will not be pursuing the mass market in the Indian subcontinent or even the vast majority of the massive Chinese market.
Sonos' best markets will be mature industrialised ones, the West if you like. Kantar's figures are a better metric to be considering here. Will the US is still a tough nut for Microsoft a quick look at Kantar's numbers will show that Windows Phones market share is considerably higher than 2.7% in Western Europe. Nearer 15% in France and Italy and closer to 10% in the UK and Germany, we won't mention Spain... These are major markets for Sonos and they have the opportunity to cement brand loyalty among Windows Phone users here by being the first player in their field to support WP, I cannot emphasise enough how much goodwill that would gain them from WP users.
I have to say that the constant "will they, won't they?" is becoming incredibly tiresome. I think it's time for a definitive answer. Indeed I participated on a thread on this very subject here, the upshot of which was that John M of Sonos made some encouraging noises about engagement on this site. Unfortunate then that their number one request has not had an update for four months.

Interesting interview with John MacFarlane at the Telegraph about why sonos will not support apple music directly: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/media/11671181/Sonos-CEO-We-would-embrace-Apple-Music.html So is this the reason why we do not get a Windows phone app!? Very objective... “We are big fans of Apple, so we would of course embrace them any time they want to come into the home, but I think that will be the next priority for them,” he said. “You have to earn Apple’s cooperation, they don’t just give it to you for free, but if there’s a delightful user experience and it makes a lot of sense, I think they do it, and there’s lots of examples of that. "
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled windows mobile platform. Recently purchased 2 Play 1's for my holiday home only to fine that neither I nor my children or grandchildren can control them using our windows phones. We are all using windows ecosystem. Very disappointing. Back to the shop they go. How is it possible that you don't have a app for the windows mobile platform??!!

I was just trying to figure out Sonos' position; I'm not telling if it's right or wrong. And I agree about the communication; here I think they somehow trapped themselves with this site because they try to show up as listening to their customers but developing software is expensive and time consuming, so at the end they end up with lots of ideas suggested by fans but everything "under consideration" is at least 2 to 3 years old - and most of the recently implemented  features are new streaming services that are not developed by Sonos but the service provider.

Maybe there is a typo in the article, it should be "if there’s a delightful user experience and it makes a lot of money" ...
It may also be that Apple is simply preparing the ground for their own hardware.
Are there any news concerning a Windows Phone App? We are waiting.................................

Hopefully at end of month with release of Windows 10 we will hear something.
Lets hope windows 10 does bring good news! I have been using the 'phonos app', which does an excellent job in the short term but sonos should support windows! especially since they no longer make a dedicated controller!

Well Groove Music (Xbox Music) was added to Sonos today (7/29/15).  Now to just get a universal Windows 10 app and we will be all set.

Come on Sonos! My dell xps 13 (which folds into a tablet) is so lonely without a sonos app. Now that win10 is here, surely you can't wait any longer? Or are you inviting MS around the table soon for a takeover?

I have to question Sonos' motives regarding this topic. Not only has it now been buried in the home theatre section, surely controllers and software is more appropriate? Were this a minor thread I could possibly have believed that it had been migrated here in error but this was the number 1 idea on the old site and should have been the first one checked.
They have also stripped about the mechanism which allowed visitors to the community to see that this is the most requested feature. Where have the 2000 me toos gone? It all seems far to convenient that this ignored two year old thread has been sidelined in the move, too embarrassing for Sonos to have it stubbornly stuck at the top of the ideas list I think.
