that didn’t work unfortunately.
I just upgraded to the family plan. 3 accounts are configured under it. When i go to sonos to add the service, i login using my spotify credentials. and it works but it authorizes my account and not the others. The other two are kid accounts.
I’ve tried on my desktop and phone apps. I’ve deleted the service and added it again. Same result. I can’t tell what step I am missing.

You need to add each account separately. Add yours, then kid 1, then kid 2.
@jgatie Right. But how do i do that? I believe the accounts are created. At least they are created on the Spotify side. Again, then don’t show up as options when I go to add a music service in the Sonos app.

As stated, you must add them one at a time to the Sonos app. Go to Settings > Services > Add a service. Choose Spotify, then follow the prompts and fill out the first account’s information.
Once it is added, do the exact same procedure for the other two accounts, except you will be filling in their information, not yours. Then you can choose which account to use by tapping on the account name on the Now Playing screen.
I’ve done the above and only my account shows up and is authenticated. That’s why I am stuck.
When you have added all of the Spotify accounts to Sonos you can choose which account the app connects to by choosing Spotify as a source and choosing the right user from the pull out menu top left on the Spotify page. The Sonos app will remember the account last used. You can do this for every phone.
When I’m connected to my Sonos network again, I’ll check if the other accounts are present.
@ls.js did you ever manage to solve the issue? I just signed up to a Spotify family plan and trying to add the kids account as well. As in your case, I cannot see the kids account as a separate account…
would be great to hear how you solved it! Cheers!
If you've indeed succeeded in adding the kid's accounts, you choose Spotify as a source, go to the account visible. In the app you see the name of the account chosen twice: on the top of the page and a bit to the left. Tap the name of the account and you should be able to choose another.
Hi,
I managed to add 3 of 4 Spotify family accounts to the Sonos app. This was done prior to the latest update of the Sonos app. Now I want to add the 4th Spotify account. Not working.
It goes as far as authorizing the account by opening the Spotify app, then every time it says ”something went wrong, try again later”. Its been like this now for several days.
Please advice.
I just tried adding my family’s separate Spotify accounts (Family Plan) and it errors when I try. Based on this threads, I feel it is an issue with the new app. Thoughts? For now, my kids are stuck using Sonos with my playlists only, which they are not happy about! :)
I posted my issue a month ago, tried again today, same error. Cannot add the fourth person of the Spotify family account to the Sonos app. EVERY TIME I try, the Sonos app just cannot process the request to authorize the Spotify account, just says ”an error occured”.
Why is this error not fixed yet? I cant be the only person with this problem apparantly given this thread..
Same issue. We have a family Spotify account. As the Sonos system owner I try to add my partners Spotify account. If I go to Your Services > Manage > Spotify > Add a New Account I get stuck in a loop of it reopening the Spotify app with my credentials. I can click Sign Up > then it asks if I have Spotify account, I say yes, and it kicks it back to my own Spotify app again. My speakers now constantly get out of sync but that’s for another post. Great work on this app, Sonos.

You could delete the Spotify app temporarily then it can’t auto-open that. Once the accounts are set up, install the Spotify app again and log back in.
And speakers won’t go out of sync if you use the grouping screen (ie the screen where you tick the speakers you want to group or ungroup and then press Apply).
I am having the same problem. My husband is the primary member of our Spotify family account. When we updated our WiFi recently and they updated the Sonos app, I had to redo our entire sonos system. When I added Spotify, it added his account. I’ve tried to add mine but I have that same loop someone else mentioned about it not working at this time. I have removed Spotify from Sonos and tried again (always on my phone which requests permission from my personalized Spotify (on our family plan)) and yet it is always his that shows up on Sonos. I’m stuck. I don’t know how else to fix it.
…and I don’t want to delete the Sonos app out of fear that I will have to reconfigure everything again. That was a nightmare I do not want to repeat.
The app is just a remote to the system. Removing it wil not harm the system - but might also not help if the problem you have is caused by the system and not the app.
I have my daughters Spotify account added but when I select it and try and play a song from her Spotify it just hangs on the timer and nothing plays, I can only use my main account to play music on my devices…come on sonos please help sort
Just had the same problem. Temporary uninstalling the Spotify app helped. In hindsight it would probably suffice logging in to the other accounts on the Spotify app and swap to the relevant account before adding it in Sonos.
Can switch between two Spotify accounts. The content on one Spotify account is not played. The same content is played via the other Spotify account.
@Sonos: Is this issue known? If yes, when can we expect a fix?
There are misconceptions here going back to the beginning of this thread that I’d like to clear up, as it has affected troubleshooting from the very beginning.
A “Spotify Kids” account shares the same login credentials as the Spotify Premium Family plan manager.
When you download the Spotify Kids app and sign in, you sign in with the same e-mail and password as the Spotify account that controls the family plan.
Consider this scenario with a family account:
User1 (non-kids, premium plan manager): me@myemail.com
User2 (non-kids): sister@myemail.com
User3 (non-kids): brother@myemail.com
User4 (non-kids): mom@myemail.com
User5 (kids): me@myemail.com (same as User1 but limited to Kids content).
Your Sonos account can have a unique Spotify account (you choose the name of it when adding it) per e-mail address where an e-mail address signifies a non-Kids account on the same family plan.
However, since the Spotify Kids account does _not have it’s own login credentials_, you cannot independently add it to Sonos, and you’ve never been able to.
In my situation, I play lullaby music on the Sonos One in my kids room every night via the Sonos app, and I’m forced to use an adult user’s account for this music. So that adult user’s history and recommendations are corrupted by lullaby music. I can’t avoid that unless I use the workaround.
The workaround: Remove the Spotify Kids account from your family plan and replace that spot with a regular Spotify account with a unique email address you’ve dedicated for your kids.
Pros:
- You can now have two Spotify accounts on your Sonos, one for you, and one for your kids, using separate email addresses under the same Spotify Premium Family plan.
- Your discover/recommendations will not be tainted by the music you play for your kids on their account.
Cons:
- The only restriction you can put on the account used by your kids is “do not play explicit content”.
- You cannot use the Spotify Kids app
- To play music from either your “premium plan manager” account or the “regular” account you’ve designated for your kids, you’ll have to use the Spotify app and manually switch profiles by tapping the profile icon in the top left and clicking “Add account” where you will then log into the email address you’ve designated for your kids.
In short, there is no ideal solution here. You simply cannot use a Spotify Kids account with Sonos at this time.
All of that being said, there is a second workaround:
User1: your main account
User2: regular account with a separate e-mail but dedicated for your kids
User3: Kids account
This takes up 2 member slots for “one kids account”, but let’s you do this:
- Add both User1 and User2 (separate email addresses under the same Spotify Family) to Sonos as separate Spotify profiles.
- In the Spotify Kids app, login with your main account to utilize User3.
This way, you can use the Sonos app to play music from User2 (dedicated to kids but has access to all Spotify content with disabling explicit as an option) on your Sonos devices, and you can also use the Spotify Kids app for kids-only content.
With that second workaround, I would be able to play lullaby music on the Sonos One in the kids bedroom by utilizing the User2 Spotify account in the Sonos app, and I would not get those recommendations on my primary account, User1. It just takes up two member slots if you still want to use the Spotify Kids app.
