Connect Amps, Play 3 have been hamstrung after recent S2 updates. At what point does that get to be described as bricked?

Has an update ever bricked equipment? AIUI, there was a short-lived period where the upgrade program bricked the upgraded product, but that program ended shortly after it was announced.
I doubt it. Seems like an APP redesign rather than a big system update.
The only things that have been “bricked” have been controllers rather than units. All speakers still work, the oldest being on the separate S1 system
