New SONOS App - Feedback

In the new 2024 Sonos App :

Where are the alarms settings?

Where is the Last.fm service?

Where is the Android widget?

This is a real nightmare. I hope Sonos will fix all that asap because what they did releasing this not finished app is scandalous.

I was really discussing with my wife to get acceptance in the „investment committee“ for a sonos system at home. My argument was, that it works easy, is reliable and great sound. After the update of app and all speakers, my strategy imploded: no possibility to choose a playlist/song and directly choose where to play anymore: just to name the feature where I lost acceptance :(

It seems that sonos was really proud of a new layout and couldn‘t wait to show it to the public…. ignoring functionality and usability.

I strongly hope, that improvements follow asap!

Wann läuft die Neue App endlich??Es ist eine Zumutung für die Kunden !!

Der Service ist unterirdisch !!

Ich habe keine Lust den Router vom Netz zu nehmen etc ..

wie geht es Euch da draußen ???

When will the new app finally run? It's an unreasonable expectation for customers!!

The service is underground!!

I don't feel like unplugging the router etc.

how are you out there???

Auch das läuft nicht die Antwort auf meine Frage ist verschleiert….da hilft nur eins Sonos abbauen und bei Kleinanzeigen verkaufen…..fertig 👍🏼🙏

That doesn't work either, the answer to my question is obscure... the only thing that helps is to dismantle Sonos and sell it in classified ads... done 👍🏼🙏

To Sonos, if this is how you treat loyalty and honesty ?

you should be ashamed, people have been honest about the new app and it’s many failures, the replies i have received are quite frankly nothing short of pathetic.

you do know about all the problems, you tried to deviate from the truth.

simply you have let us down, but let yourself down even more, think again about what you do and say ( please )

After the update, I can't even log into the app anymore... YES, the Sonos app has been reinstalled several times. The mobile operating system is up to date, so you don't have to blame anything on others because Sonos has done a lot of s*** here, I'll definitely be on it switch to another provider. I'm not doing this to myself anymore. In order to use Sonos, you probably have to be an IT specialist in your 20s, then look for capable employees yourself. Honest ....? I regret the purchase

Hi all, I know there are many feature specific issues with the new app, but is anyone else simply finding the response time making it basically unusable?  All I want do to use stop it start some music, change the volume or change the source and the lag is ridiculous. I can wait easily 5 seconds for any response, or I just don't get one.  Is there a fix for this,  Cheers

Like many, I uninstalled the new Sonos app and reloaded from the archived APK (for Android). I disabled updates in both Google Play Store and the Sonos system settings.

It's been good for a week. All was working as expected last evening.

This morning, a couple of my speakers now have the wrench icon against them and refuse to allow any activity unless I upgrade to the new app....Like hell!

I can still play Spotify individually on the affected speakers, but I can't include them in a group via Spotify.

Is this Sonos strong-arming the dissidents to conform and use the new app?

As others have said, I believe the new app collects user behaviour for onward sale. If a significant percentage of the user population doesn't contribute to that data gathering by remaining on the old app, it will impact new revenue streams.

Welcome to being a product rather than a customer!

EDIT: With diminishing control of my system I tried to access my system via the PC interface and accompanying the blank screen there was only one non-greyed out option which was to update my system! I was really twitching!  I was one of the first to post the roll-back option on the Sonos community and feared I was in the crosshairs! Paranoia rules, OK? tee hee!

I then thought through that the PC interface couldn't really invoke the app other than perhaps making it mandatory, but hey it was going that way anyway.  So I updated the firmware (which I had blocked) via the PC and normality has returned. Phew!

I still believe that Sonos have radically changed their business model and will mine the users usage behaviour. It may explain them doubling down on the new app despite it's pitiful shortcomings. It's nothing sinister and is just the same as many others are doing elsewhere . They have an interesting USP in that they span and integrate many different streaming services. Valuable data?

New app volume issue -  when I have more than one speaker in a group and I adjust the volume - the last speaker in the list does not adjust with the others - it does not change the volume for the last speaker.  Tested this with one, two, three, and four speakers in a group.  New app running on  iPhone 13 with iOS 17.5.

Have a similar problem, except it’s 2 speakers wil adjust the other 2 will not. This is on iOS, but the android app seems to work ok. What a shambles.

Can you PLEASE PLEASE let us have the old Sonos 2 app back while you fix this atrocity of an update. Everyone is asking for this back until you all can repair this horror.  Why can’t you just let us have the old app back? Aren’t  you tired of everyone biting your head off over this?  Do something about it and give us the old app back at least for the time being. Please do this now!

Frankly, this new APP does not work AT ALL. Can’t control ANY devices anymore. When is this getting fixed? Send out the OLD app so we can actually control our systems.

In music library, the alphabetical quick links have disappeared so you can no longer jump to « q » or « z » from the top of the artist list. It makes scrolling through hundreds of artists to get to « s » very difficult.

please put the the alphabetical quick links back on the sidebar.

When are you going to fix this horrible update of the Sonos S2 app? Please let us have the old Sonos 2 app back, while you fix this buggy terrible update. Everything about this update is bad.

This is very important that this be fixed. I have 30,000 songs in my home library and is the primary reason I have used Sonos for 12 years and updated my hardware consistently throughout all these years. Scrolling down thousands of artists to get to Yes or XTC is ridiculous and frankly idiotic!

I used to be able to go on my friends wifi and connect to her system.

Vice Versa she was able to connect to mine.

As long a you were on the same wifi as the sonos it worked, but with the new APP, that is not working.

Any ideas?

Never had a problem with Sonos until the the most recent update, it just doesn't work. System keeps dropping and can't reconnect without a time consuming struggle, radioplayer doesn't work, haven't even bothered trying new playlist.

BLUF: Sonos isn't syncing time played for each podcast from Pocket Casts via the Sonos new app; old app still works fine.

I used “Pocket Casts” for my music podcasts.  My speakers are all running the latest firmware, updated recently.  I have updated the Sonos app on my iPhone to the lates.  My iPad is still running the previous version (before this new major upgrade).

When playing podcasts via the new app, the time played does not sync back to Pocket Casts.  When using the previous app on the iPad, it works as it always has and DOES sync the time played.

I have reauthorized Packet Casts in the new app, doesnt help.

Please add this to the list of issues.  I’ve tried to refrain from putting any opinion in this post, keeping it just to facts.  BUT, the fact is that I truly hate the new app and am hoping ALL the features of the old app make it into the new app.  But, the UI/UX of the new app is simply horrible, from a very long time customers personal opinion.

Is there a way to implement a full screen mode on iOS?  I like to keep the app open on a small iPad so I can see what is playing at any given time.  With the old version, the currently selected album art would display in full screen with no other elements showing.  The new app displays the currently playing zone as an overlay and it looks cluttered.  This is probably a low-priority suggestion, but it would be nice to return to the aesthetic of the previous app for this particular function.

It would be nice to return to the previous app, period!

A few days I realized there was a new app, or at least an update, because my Android icon changed from yellow to black. And three times in the last week I've timed how long it takes to open --50 seconds--way longer than it used to. But only today did I realize I no longer have access to MY OWN music in MY OWN library! I spent well over an hour trying to re-add my music collection and it keeps giving error messages. Who in the heck does Sonos think it is to deny me access to MY OWN music? And not even tell me it was doing that? I think software developers (and not just Sonos developers, but all software developers) keep coming up with updates in order to justify their own jobs. But if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it!

With much gratitude to the r/Sonos community, I’ve gotten my local Apple Music library back on my Mac.

https://www.reddit.com/r/sonos/comments/1cuasf1/fix_for_libraries_on_external_drives_or_nas_on/

Basically, follow the tutorial on

Then, to get your playlists back:

  1. Open ITunes (Music), click on Home in the upper left, then go to File -> Library -> Eport Library

  2. This will create a "Library.xml" file. Save it to your Desktop

  3. Make a Folder and name it "iTunes" on your Desktop

  4. Rename the "Library.xml" file to "ITunes Music Library.xml" and put it in the folder you just created.

  5. Move this Folder to where your music is. And I mean that literally. Like where you have all the artists listed in your iTunes Musics files.. Put it there.

  6. Remove and Re-import via Sonos and you "should' be all set. You should be able to just "Update Music Library" instead of removing/re-adding, but I'm not 100% sure.

Using Update Music Library worked for me.

The xml file will have to be replaced every time playlists are updated, but at least this gives me access to my music again.

What happened to Shuffle All Songs in Apple Music?  Why are the most basic features of being able to play music on my system being taken away?  The user experience for this platform is becoming worse and worse.

I hope so…. This is the worst …. I guess we all make mistakes. Couldn’t see this coming.

None of us saw it coming, especially those of us who have been loyal customers for more than a decade. It just doesn’t make any sense. Not good for Sonos. Not good for users. Very strange.

I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. The products - speakers, etc - are great, fantastic. The problem is the software, the apps. It is, and has always been, TERRIBLE. This new fiasco on their part it just the bottom of the barrel!

I'm going to give Audio Pro a go. Start with one speaker and if the app for that is acceptable enough then bulk buy the rest to replace my entire Sonos set up. If I can recoup half the cost by selling the Sonos speakers I'll happily take the loss just to get Sonos out of my house, because you just know that even if they eventually sort this mess out it's only a matter of time before they screw everyone over again. I've been loyal for a decade but enough is enough.

Having worked my career in software development and releasing new code to production environments, this is the absolute worst process I’ve ever seen. They had to have failed hundreds if not thousands of pre-production test scenarios and yet they released it anyway. A majority of those failures had to be critical to functionality failures. Whoever developed this, and whoever signed off on it should be fired.

Complete disaster.  Does not work!  Interface is confusing and unusable.  What are you doing!  This used to be a worthy product.  Now it gets worse and worse as time goes by.   Now i will be forced to look at other options and dump10’s of thousands of dollars.  Feela lime you need real product mangers, software developers and a real test environment.
