I've not updated my main main system (3x play 5, Arc Sub and 2 x Play3 surround, Move and a Symfrnisk) to the New App instead I've created a separate smaller system with 2 x Play1 and a Roam.

With this setup I've been able to monitor the progress of the new app hopefully to a point where I'm prepared to update everything to it.

Sorry to report that it's not there yet (I've read the blog post that implies new exceeds old in responseivness - not true in my case).

Main issues with the new app on latest iPhone release 80.12.03 are.

1. Local library is never accessible from the home screen, it's there and playable via search or direct selection but the home screen always says 'no longer accessable '

2. It's still laggy, particularly when changing tracks, volume control is just about acceptable (but there shouldn't be any at all).

3. Every time on opening the app or bringing it back to foreground it briefly (sometimes many seconds) says no system found.

4. UI/UX, ok it's a matter of personal taste but I find it more difficult and slower to navigate than the old app. It may be a familiarity issue but the home screen makes little sense to me I don't want all the options it offers, generally I just want to fire up some music that I've paused. Can we have an option to REMOVE some of the standard pinned stuff as well as add services (see point 1 above though).

As a general comment I do hope that the app code is not becoming full of patches and hacks as is likely to happen when you released what was probably considered to be minimum viable product (it wasn't) and then pressure the program to feature add/fix......

Sonos I still love your sound and your hardware but you operate a closed ecosystem which is fine if your software is good, when it's not all that fantastic work by your engineering/hardware folk is wasted.

App developers I feel for you, continue to the recovery PLEASE!

I don’t find the new Sonos App a problem at all. The search facility seems to be the winning feature for me across all the installed music services and if playing a local source then playback is near-instant.

Starting playback within some online streaming services can be a little slower, but hopefully that will improve with time. Here is what I see (attached). I just chose to use your username for the search in this instance on my iPad controller, but the iPhone App is just as reliable, maybe more-so.

Can you search local library now?

Down at the bottom of the Home page is an ‘Edit Home’ button.

There is also a web controller.

Can you search local library now?

Yes, that’s been available in the mobile Apps for a while now. The local library can also be searched on its own by going to ‘Your Sources/Music Library” and then performing a search.

I didn't know it had been added into the ‘New Search’, it used to just search services etc.

I still use the (far superior imho) Classic Search.

Ah okay I’m not using S2, although I still have a small S1 system. I prefer the new Sonos App search, but I guess it’s each to their own.

I looked through the App release notes, the local library search was added around the end of July, just for your info. It has got faster/more reliable since it was first introduced, but there are still some issues in one or two areas, which I’ve reported to Sonos Support. It mostly centres around the Plex service. I assume that it will get resolved at some later stage.

Can you search for a song or band of a certain name now?  Or is the search across everything without filtering?

It’s across everything, but divided into categories in the returned result screen, showing Artists, Albums, Playlists, Tracks etc. which I don’t mind personally speaking, as it sometimes causes me to discover music that I had perhaps forgotten was held in my library and had not played in a long while.

edit: The example here perhaps being that shown earlier in the thread, where I searched for ‘sibl’ (the username of the OP) and that led me to stumble upon the ‘Invisible Touch’ album from Genesis in my local library, which I selected and played in the screen-capture recording.

Not sure where I gave the impression in my OP that the local search didn't work, it absolutely does.

My complaint re local library relates to if you select something like 'songs' from local and add it to home (so yes I know how to do that) it doesn't persist or rather it remains but doesn't work.

All responses so far have been re the above, how is everyone finding responsiveness of the new app?

I'm currently listening  to my old app system and its MUCH slicker.

The new App is really responsive here, except for when I press play/shuffle buttons in the Amazon or Apple Music service (the two main streaming services I use) - it takes about 7 seconds to start playing on the chosen speaker/group, but it does always work and everything else, for how I use the Sonos App, works fine. Queue responsiveness after loading, is near-instant when skipping/changing tracks.

I don’t ever use Sonos playlists, as all my playlists are stored within their native music Apps and synced using Soundiiz. My local playlists are locally created *.m3u playlists held in the library structure on the NAS.

Theres room for further improvement of course and I’ll happily wait for that, but I have no issues with SSDP/mDNS device discovery, nor issues with volume control, like some have reported.

My setup runs entirely on mesh WiFi, and not wired SonosNet. I have all ‘compatible’ Sonos products using the faster 5Ghz WiFi band with all SNR levels in the Sonos App showing 45dB, or higher.

Non-compatible Sonos products running on the 2.4Ghz band, use a non-overlapping channel with a 20MHz channel-width only to keep any interference to a minimum. I do have all my Sonos device IP addresses reserved in the routers DHCP reservation table to assist with stability during system reboot/updates etc.

Thanks Ken I’ll test the difference between Sonos playlists and native streaming service lists, I’d not thought of that distinction.

Re reserving IP’s: I did do that prior to a router change and haven't got round to setting it up again, however both systems are running on the same LAN with unreserved IP’s so any detriment should be common to both.

Sonos has its own channel as far as I can arrange, but I do occasionally have to move it around when neighbours routers auto channel select onto its space.

My system is mostly wired (old) and wifi (new).

I agree its getting better and ‘nearly there’ for me to consider a total upgrade, I am however very glad I prevented auto update earlier this year.
