Is there a windows 10 desktop app that works with the SonosONE? IF yes, where do I find it?
Yes

As far as I can make out from trying myself and reading various internet posts, connection from the Windows app is a very hit-and-miss affair.

Personally speaking, I have my Windows 10 machine on the same wifi network as my Android phone. The phone connects no problem, Windows 10 won't connect at all.

Compared to the generally slick operation of Sonos, they've really dropped the ball on the Windows side of things in my opinion.

Complete and utter nonsense.

There is NO general or widespread problem using the Windows app. Problems will almost always be 1) Too old a version of Windows or 2) Firewall settings or 3) User error or 4) Network faults.
I've not had any issues with the Sonos controller on Windows 10... Like Stuart says, one of the likely issues is a firewall on the computer blocking communication between the controller software and the Sonos hardware.

Also, I'll note that the Windows Controller doesn't allow enabling the voice service functionality of the Sonos One. That will need to be done with the iOS or Android controller apps. That is likely because Sonos and Amazon can make calls between their apps to load different pages/screens in the setup process (though TBH, they could easily link to https://alexa.amazon.com for the same on a computer).

I tried that app. It doesn't find my ONE, and when it gives instructions for setup, it shows me diagrams for buttons I don't have. I assume the buttons it shows are for the Play:1. Perhaps it hasn't been updated for the ONE (yet).
If it's telling you to press the Volume Up + Play/Pause buttons, you can just press the Join button on the back of the Sonos One at that point. Yes, that's unusual that they don't have it updated to show the correct info.

There's only 1 PC controller. As I said if you have set-up your speaker using a mobile controller or tablet and then you find that it doesn't "see" your speaker there is some other problem.

- Check the release notes to make sure you are using a supported OD (Windows 10 should be fine).

- Make sure the PC is connected to the same network that you connected the Sonos speaker to.

- Check your firewall is configured to allow Sonos. See here https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/823/~/configuring-windows-firewall-to-work-with-sonos

This worked fine for me. Stuart you're awesome!🆒
Make sure you set your WiFi settings on your computer to private. I spent year trying to figure out how get the controller to work on my laptop. Finally, I played with the WiFi settings. It was set to public. So I switched it to private and now it works perfectly fine.
