Just wondered if two people in a house can each play different music on different speakers using different smart phones or devices? Can they each see what the other is playing?

Yes and Yes.
And they can change things related to what the other is playing - from volume levels to song selections:-). Can be a problem at times if the users, regardless of age, aren't grown ups.
