No, as I understand it there is no longer a “bricking mode” attached to the upgrade offer. See the first link I posted:

UPDATE 3/5: Sonos will ditch Recycle Mode, The Verge reports. The Trade Up program will live on, but customers can now decide what they want to do with older devices: keep them, give them away, recycle nearby, or send to Sonos. To get the discount, you'll just have to prove via the Sonos app that you own one of the older devices. But you don't have to trade it in anymore.”

In the second link I posted, Sonos states:

”Choose

Decide if, when, and how to recycle your old product.”

So you can have it recycled, but you can also keep using it if you want.

That would surprise me. When I click the link I get an updated article from pcmag about the Sonos trade up/trade in.

Here’s what Sonos says about it: https://www.sonos.com/en-us/tradeup

My Play 5 has stopped working, after recently having intermittent connectivity issues.

Can no longer re-add it to the system, as it is not found.

Has SONOS reneged on its stated commitment to support these EXPENSIVE legacy devices?

No, all devices are still supported. You can still contact Sonos Support directly to discuss it.

I usually suggest the phone folks, they have more tools available because they're on the phone with you, but they are available Monday through Friday during business hours. The Twitter support folks are available 24/7.
