Unreliable connectiom to Spotify

I’ve just bought a new Sonos Beam and it’s having trouble playing music from my Spotify account. I’m getting error messages including “The connection to Spotify was lost” from the Sonos app, while the Spotify app struggles to connect to my Sonos speaker when I try to change the playback device to the speaker. Sometimes it works and then quickly disconnects, other times it struggles to connect in the first place. 

I’m using the Beam over WiFi because an Ethernet connection isn’t practical. I have it connected to a Netgear Orbi mesh WiFi router which itself is hardwired to a DrayTek Vigor130 modem. 

Alternative music services like TuneIn seem to work flawlessly. 

Any idea what the problem is here?

Oh wait ignore me, I found a way to run an Ethernet cable and it’s made everything far more reliable.
