If I throw Spotify from my iPhone to my Sonos One it will sometimes begin to distort and will completely cut off on my Arc. This does not seem to happen if I use the Sonos app, but that is not as comprehensive of a musical experience. This only recently (last few months) began to happen after having owned the speaker for almost two years.
Any idea of a fix or am I resigned to using the Sonos app? 

Sounds more like an issue either with the Spotify app, or your AirPlay 2 from Apple, and not Sonos themselves. In the situation you’re describing, Sonos is merely a “receiver” of data, and has no responsibility other than playing what it receives. 

No idea what response you’d get from either Spotify or from Apple about the issue, but I’d be looking on their respective support staff to assist you.
