I have a very irregular listening space and currently use 3 ERA 100s and a sub mini. This config is for MUSIC ONLY. I have a Beam Gen 2 in a bedroom for TV audio only. Because of the weird room(s) dynamics I have the 100s positioned 20 feet apart in a triangle formation for a listening area of 770 sq feet. I like the sound of the 100s but just ordered a pair of 300s. 20 feet apart is not ideal for stereo pairing and need to know how badly this will affect Stereo pairing the 300s. They (300s) apparently have better “features” and capacity for more “spacial” sound delivery.

I plan to use the 300s as the “main” speakers with either 1, 2 or 3 100s placed in more “obscure/strategic" locations in the listening space. If I do not pair the 300s how will this affect sound delivery in 770 sq feet of listening area with weird room angles and a 5 foot wide floor to ceiling (open space) wall within the listening area? I listen to Atmos and non-atmos tracks and still hoping to get optimum dispersion of sound (distortion free) with the 300s as main and the 100s as “backup”. Trueplay could be a nightmare in this space and looking for suggestions using stereo pairing (or not) and 1 or more rooms/groups.

The sub mini will be more than adequate given the (supposed) low frequency abilities of the 300s. Just not sure how to configue the 4 or 5 speakers for best listening everywhere in this triangle space with the 100s helping to “fill” the space. Yikes...suggestions?

A great thing about a Sonos system is its reconfigurability. Attach the speakers to long power extension cables and move the speakers around. Try two stereo-paired, and separate as grouped speakers. What sounds best to you is the “best” setup.

Don’t be afraid to experiment, even with things “the book” says aren’t optimal.

All of my three main listening spaces are horribly set up according to what I’m told but with a bit of tweaking (the extension cords really helped) I got sound that I’m very happy with.

Thanks for the response. Therein lies the problem. The main speaker locations are "fixed" within the triangle and the options of moving (the 300s) around is not possible. The other tip of the triangle has to be occupied by one of the 100s. I’ll even consider a third 300 for that. I have more flexibility with the 100s as “spatial backups” so really focusing on the 300s and the sound produced from the seperation gap. Either 20ft stereo pairing or 20ft standalone and tweaking Trueplay or EQ settings.  Gotta get the best sounding system level config for those 300s then I’ll focus on where/how the 100s should be placed within the 300s sonic baseline. At least I’ll have some flex pairing and/or grouping the 100s as needed.

Thanks Stanley..appreciate your input....

If the positions are fixed, all you can do is try the 300’s and 100’s in those fixed positions. At least if they’re on long power extension cable you can try different speakers in those positions without the wait for them to restart every time you move speakers around. But it still comes down to “let your ears decide”.

Thanks Nik9669a, I guess part of the fun is in the chase to optimize these Sonos systems for best sound possible..love of music is a great motivator to spend and tweak 😊

You sound single… I tweaked that. :-)

part of the fun is in the chase to optimize these Sonos systems for best sound possible in locations that meet spousal approval

After her tolerating my audio addiction for so many years I have decided to get the best sound I can without aggravating her further.

Hey Stanley, easy fix...just ask her heart and soul if they would care to dance over a bottle of wine...
