Hi,

I have an older Sonos Connect that hasn’t been used for a while.

I have loaded it up and tried to connect to a new WI-FI network using the S1 App. After trying lots of things it wouldn’t connect. I have now managed to connect it via Ethernet and the S1 app detects it but it won’t play any music as it says it requires an update.

When I try to update, it instantly says “Update problem”  Error code 1101.

I have tried lots of things, my router settings are not blocking anything. Tried on my iPhone and Mac. Nothing is working.

Moderator edit: removed and recorded serial number and Sonos ID

I’m having the same issue setting up a Play:1 that hasn’t been used in a long time. No luck here either.

I had this problem about a year ago.

I’m not sure exactly how I solved it, but I did.

If you are using wifi, then try connecting your device with an ethernet cable directly to your router.  I know that some of the older firmware versions had some sensitivity to which network (wifi or wired) was used.

I did end up getting this resolved. A horrible experience but all four play:1 are now updated and working on S2. I connected the Play:1 to my network via cable. Use the S1 app to find and connect the device to my account. It wouldn't let me proceed to using the device without updating but it did still add the device. Then I switched to the Windows S2 app and let it find the system on the network. It prompted me to update which was successful. I then reset the S1 app so I could repeat the process for each of the remaining devices. Then once they were all updated to S2 I factory reset them so I could put them all together into one system.
