Hi!

I’ve seen a Sonos connect on eBay. The seller is unsure whether it’s a gen 1 or gen 2, I’m after gen 2. I have some pictures, can anyone tell me which generation this is please?

Moderator edit: removed serial number (which does not help in determining model)

Look for a Connect S15, which is the Gen 2 model and has a play/pause button in front instead of a mute button.

I think the serial 1205 places it in 2012.  Then it's a version 1 (which often suffered power supply failures, I believe).  In fact, I not too sure how reliable the ver 2 was either.  I boxed mine up and hardly ever used it.

Unless you absolutely must have a Sonos, then the Wiim range of streamers are much better value.  Just saying.

There is a firmware bug that causes drop outs with s2 connects and connect amps. Been about a year, not fixed. Buy with caution.

Hi all, thanks for the replies! I wasn’t aware of the firmware issues and drop outs etc, so appreciate you raising this. I’m looking to play my turntable (with built in pre amp) through my Sonos one speaker stereo pair.

Has anyone got any suggestions on how to better do this without using a Sonos connect please? Could I use something from the Wiim range maybe?

Thanks again!

I guess the firmware bug has not affected me because I use a Connect S15 for my turntable and have not experienced any dropouts. I have the Connect set to auto play to a Play 1 in my dining room (the closest speaker).

But to answer your question, you can use a Port, Era100/300, Five or an Amp (if you want a dedicated system for vinyl) to connect your turntable to. But I am assuming you want something wallet friendly, so the Era 100 with the line in adapter should work great for you.

That's reassuring - thank you. So I think I would be best using a connect S15 / gen 2, or an Era 100? Am I correct in thinking that both will allow for turntable line-in and I can connect this to play through a sonos one stereo pair?

Appreciate the response.

Yes, they will both allow you to group the Play 1s with them. The good thing about the Era option, is that you have a speaker that is not relying on grouping with another speaker to hear audio.

ERA 100 will require the USB Line-In accessory.
