Burned component on Sonos Amp bottom PCB

My Sonos Amp just died. Its totally unresponsive, there is not even any light in the LED. Tried calling Sonos support and they basically just said “Sorry, its out of warrenty. It can’t be repaired. We can give you a discount on a new Amp”. Well, sorry - with that attitude I am not exaclty inclined to send any more of my money to Sonos.

Given that the unit is a write-off I decided to take it apart. Looks like there is a burned resistor on the bottom PCB. However, this resistor have properly been killed off by some othet fauilty component.

I seldom ply music on this Amp so it quite strange that it died.

Anyone have any idea how to get it fixed?

Search the web for tips. There might be some repair services in Europe, none in the US I've seen.

30% off a new one out of warranty is far better than most offer. Next time consider the extended warranty option if you want more coverage.

Found an independent repair shop in Germany. They told me that this is a know issue with the SONOS Amp. Turns out that its a coil (L2) that has failed. It properly failure is properly due to something else failing upstream in the circuitry.

I remain a little dissapointed that SONOS does not offer some kind of repair service as this is what I would expect from a quality brand. Also, I personally do feel that this “just buy a new one” mentality is not well aligned with the environmental awareness of the modern world.

Repair plus shipping costs often are higher than replacement costs so repair just doesn’t make sense.

Sonos offers their one year warranty and the option of an extended warranty if you wish longer full coverage. They will often extend a decent discount to owners of failed systems that haven’t been opened too.

Better deal than I have gotten on anything else I’ve bought recently.
