What does Sonos normally offer or do to it's customers if there outside the warranty period for S2 devices that are defective? Do they normally provide a discount on new purchases and if so, what kind of discount? Or would they maybe see about a full unit replacement if it gets escalated to a manager?

I don’t think there is a ‘normally’, otherwise they would codify it in some sort of extended type of warranty. I suspect it depends on many variables, and goes across all possibilities…and I would expect, more frequently than not, close to nothing, since the devices are, in fact, out of warranty.
Far better to purchase an extended warranty plan from a reputable seller before your Sonos warranty runs out.
Best you can do is call Sonos, be polite and ask nicely if there is anything they can do for you.
