What happens if I install an external Full MQA DAC between the Sonos Port and the receiver, would the DAC perform the last stage of decompression or would I still be limited to the maximum Sonos sampling frequency which is 48 kHz?

A DAC cannot increase the sampling frequency. You could argue that DAC ‘A’ sounds better than DAC ‘B’.
MQA is a very controversial format. I’m not a fan of MQA, but if you are stuck with a large number of MQA encoded files, you might be better off with an external DAC.
