Hi I have a pair of Sonos Era 100 and a pair of Sonos Era 300 speakers.

Both pairs are used to play records via Bluetooth to my Sony Bluetooth turntable.

Since upgrading to version 15.10, both of my speaker sets are able to pair up to my Bluetooth turntable, but I am getting no sound.

I have unpaired and re-paired both sets several times, but to no avail.

I am able to pair up my phone to them over Bluetooth and play music no problem.

Anyone else got the same issue?

Can anyone suggest anything?

Kind Regards

Martin

Do you have another BT speaker, or headset, you can pair with the TT, just to see if the TT BT connection is working okay? If it does work with other devices, then it maybe best (whilst in range of your WiFi) to reproduce the issue and to go onto submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and then contact/chat with Sonos Support Staff via this LINK and see what the Staff can perhaps suggest to resolve the matter.

Thanks for the reply Ken.

No I don't have any other Bluetooth speakers unfortunately.

I have since read others have been experiencing issues too.

The era 100s were bought specially for Bluetooth sound to my Sony turntable, so I'm a bit annoyed tbh.

I find the live chat a bit clunky to Sonos, so I will give my supplier a ring tomorrow morning as I have only had the speakers and turntable since July.

Why don’t you perhaps call Sonos Support on the phone instead - but ideally you could first do with borrowing a Bluetooth speaker, or earbuds/headset etc; from a family member or mate and just test to see if it might be the TT that’s the cause. You’ve ruled out the speakers, as they work with your mobile phone, so I would perhaps focus now on the TT to see if that’s the issue and if it works then give Sonos a call. I assume you’ve already power-cycled the TT and done the obvious things like bringing a speaker closer (say, within 3 feet etc?)

Hi Ken,

Yes I have power cycled everything.

I can't ring Sonos support until tomorrow as they are not open until 8am Monday in the UK.

I think I will talk to the online retailer I purchased the Sonos speakers and turntable off initially tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards

@Tiny_107,
One further thought here, is to just make sure the speakers and the Sony TT are not pairing with anything else in the Home, as if the first BT- pairing isn’t found, then such devices do tend to go to the previous pairing, or the one before that etc; - so perhaps switch off Bluetooth on all other nearby devices, if only to ensure the BT pairing between the TT and speaker is setup correctly.

Hi Ken,

The turntable and the Sonos Era100s are definitely pairing, I don't think I have any other Bluetooth devices in the vicinity apart from my phone and that definitely is not paired to the turntable.

If I decided the Bluetooth connectivity is too much hassle to try and diagnose, I was thinking about connecting the turn table via the Sonos Usb Line in adapter.

How does this adapter work?

I have red and white male phono connectors at the back of the Sony Bluetooth turntable, which I assume are left and right speaker connectors, would I just plug one of those into the Sonos line in adapter and they work as a stereo pair wirelessly?

Or do I have to purchase two Sonos line in adapters, one for each speaker?

Cheers

Martin

You just need to use an RCA to 3.5mm cable from the TT line out into one of these Sonos dongles..

https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-line-in-adapter

https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/sonos-combo-adapter

The connection appears in the Sonos App as a Music source and can be played to any/every speaker. There are options in the App to ‘Autoplay’ to a room (& grouped rooms) at a preset volume level aswell.

(You only need the one Sonos adapter) - the cheaper audio adapter will be fine if you presently use your speakers connected over WiFi).

Hi Ken,

The link to the RCS to 3.5mm cable won't work I don't think as the Sony Turntable has hard wired cable with two male red and white plugs coming out of the back of it, as per the picture below.

Would I need to buy another converter to plug those cables into them onto the Sonos line in adapter?

The last software update seems to have broken the Bluetooth connectivity with Sony turntables:

Hopefully these posts will make Sonos aware of the issue and they will address it soon. And hopefully they’ll fix the BT issue that existed with Sony turntables and the Move 2 that existed before the 15.10 update.

@Tiny_107 You need an RCA female to 3.5mm male adapter.

I am thinking of hard wiring using the line in adapter, this is too much hassle if Sonos are going to send out poor quality controlled software updates.

The only reason I bought the pair of era 100s was to connect them using Bluetooth to my partner's turntable....…

Therefore they will be sat doing nothing if Sonos take an age to send out a patch to fix the issue

Ah I didn’t realise the RCA cable was built into the Sony TT (sorry!), but yes a simple converter will do as @GuitarSuperstar mentions - admittedly I would personally prefer a wired connection between TT/Speaker anyway, rather than a Bluetooth wireless link (if convenient), but it’s always nice to have both and if it’s a Sonos issue I’ve no doubt that it will get fixed, if they are given the diagnostic data and the matter is reported to them.

Thanks Ken, yes I believe the issue has been reported.

I think for the sake of £25, I will just order the RCA female adapter and Sonos line in, then at least the chairwoman of the household can listen to her LPs again 🙂

I think the wired connectivity will be better quality sound than the Bluetooth due to compression.

Now December 4th and still no news on a fix for BT Sony turntable issue. Can we at least get an update Sonos?
Diagnotics number: 1661983507

Would be quicker to just buy the cable if it works for your layout.

It did for me, so just spent circa £30 and have moved on.

There will not be a quick fix for this imo unfortunately.

Can we at least get an update Sonos?

Sonos Staff here don’t do updates other than ones like: “we are looking at it” and “we added that as a feature request” as they are not allowed to.

And the challenge, @Tiny_107 , is for those folks whose turntable is not in comfortable reach for a cable to work. Makes great sense if the turntable is close to the line in, but more difficult if they’re not close enough for cables to be an effective solution.

If the adapter and cable option is off the table a used Connect (make sure it is S2 compatible) can be found for under $100 used.

As I stated, using the line in adapter IF it works for your layout.

I have looked at the adapter but doesn’t really work for me as I have 2 era100 as a stereo pair. I’m using my soundbar right now, not ideal but hoping the fix will not be too far away.

When in use as surrounds, both Bluetooth and line in functionality are turned off.

Due to the nature of the connection between a Sonos soundbar of any type, and its bonded surrounds, this is unlikely to change.

Hi @Tiny_107 et al

Thank you all for your feedback on this, we greatly appreciate it. We understand that you are eagerly waiting for this to get fixed, and while we can't give an exact date, we can share that we have narrowed down the issue and internal teams are currently testing a possible solution.

To set the correct expectation for everyone: There will not be a fix released before the year end, since more testing needs to be done to make sure the fix actually works.

While we don't have more information right now, we will of course share any news, in the main related thread linked below, once we do.

hi i had sonos era 100 and it would conect to my sony turntable but no sound .would play sound thru old bose speaker tho. sonos support eventually said it was sonos issue and not sure when it will be fixed have since sent sonos back as not  heard anything
