My current setup: den with TV → Ethernet to Port input → RCA output to 5.1 receiver DVD input

2 other Sonos Amps running various other speakers, and 1 Arc soundbar (on a different room’s TV) on my household Sonos ecosystem.  I have the den TV connected to the Port to enable TV sound over all Speakers throughout the house. 

My question is can I add a Phono / turntable to the existing Port using RCA, thereby connecting into the 5.1 receiver and integrating into the Sonos system? I would essentially have 2 inputs into the Port that way.

Or would the better solution be to remove the den TV ethernet connection to Port, connect the Phono into the input side of the Port using RCA, and then when I want whole-house TV sound, utilize the soundbar from the other room’s TV?  My den TV’s picture is not always sync’d with other rooms TV’s so I’d prefer to keep it as the main source of Sonos TV whole-house sound if possible, because it is most likely the TV that we will be watching.

Inherent in any SONOS Line-In is a 75ms time latency, therefore it is unlikely that you will have perfect lip sync any TV using Line-In. (but you could get lucky)

 Thanks Buzz - would a switching device be appropriate if my 2 lines-in were of different types? I’m pretty sure my TV is on the ethernet input on the Port, and my Phono would be on the RCA one.

Typically, audio connections will be RCA jacks, but modern TV’s usually have an optical connection. In this case you’ll need an optical to RCA converter in addition to the RCA switch.

I reread your original post and I’m a little confused. What is currently connected to your PORT’s inputs and outputs?

I’m not looking at it, but currently the TV is connected to the input side, I think through the ethernet connection but I need to verify this evening.  The output side of the Port is RCA cable to my 5.1 receiver.

I want to add a Turntable to the input side of the Port.

Ethernet doesn’t usually carry audio but digital packets.

TV sound out is usually HDMI, Optical/TOS or RCA Analog, sometimes a Digital Coax.

Port inputs don’t include HDMI TOS or Coax. just RCA.

Ok I’m a complete dummy. I checked the connections last night and I have nothing connected to the input side of the Port, but the output goes to my 5.1 receiver via digital audio out cable.  Looks like I WAS using my downstairs TV (via Arc) to bring TV audio into my Sonos environment.

I can use the RCA input on the Port for the turntable, keep the output connection to the receiver the same, and now the turntable should be in the Sonos system as well (correct me if I’m wrong here).

That is correct.

Please be aware the Port needs a line in signal, so you’d need a turntable with (built in) preamp.
