We are starting to finish our basement and want to add ceiling speakers to listen to music or to enhance our television audio during movies/football games/etc.  A couple of questions:

  1. Do we need an amp?  There is no existing system down there.  We weren’t sure if the speakers were simply Bluetooth and hooked up to the app/TV or if we needed the amp?
  2. How many in-ceiling speakers would you need for a 200 square foot room?

Thank you!

Sonos sell a set of two ceiling speakers and an Amp. See this link:

IMHO your mentioned space will need 2 ceiling speakers for music audio, which one Amp will support, but just to first ask …Are you planning to play TV audio from these speakers, as my own thoughts are, that it will be quite ‘strange’ to watch say a newsreader speaking on the TV-screen out in front, but then have their voice audio coming from overhead… but I guess that’s a matter for yourself.

Personally I would get either a second Amp and use that with front speakers, set at head height (when seated), or even consider using a Sonos Arc soundbar with the TV instead.
