Can't Get My Sony Turntable to connect to my system

Hello all,

I just bought a Sony turntable with phono preamp to play vinyl on. I currently have the Amp, Sub, Arc, and two Sonos architectural built in speakers. The whole Sonos system is set up in my family room like surround sound. When I connect the turntable to the Amp, the app does not give me the option for Browse> Line-In. Does that mean that I would have to disconnect my surround sound system from the Amp in order for it to play the turntable? I would love to leave everything connected and just be able to play my turntable over the whole system. Is that possible?

Thank you for your reply. Does that mean then I would assume, that if I add another amp or port of some sort I still wouldn’t be able to stream the music from the turntable to the Arc? Definitely not the passive speakers connected to my current Amp.

You can stream the line-in TT audio to any/every Sonos ’room’ in your system - the only reason you’re facing difficulties at the moment, is because your Amp is acting as a slave to the Arc and in that ‘bonded’ mode, the line-in on the Sonos Amp is disabled.

As a test, you could now unbond the Amp from the Arc and then setup/use the line-in TT audio to play to any/all your Sonos Rooms, including the Arc and/or the Amps connected passive ceiling speakers.

Ideally though, if you want to leave the Amp bonded for the purposes of HT surround audio, then you might want to consider adding a separate Sonos product with line-in and use that with the TT instead. You can still play the TT audio to each/all your chosen Sonos rooms, but without having to unbond and bond your Amp repeatedly with the Arc, as that can become a nuisance if you want to switch the setup on quite a regular basis.

Line-In is disabled when AMP or a player is in surround mode.

@NittanyBrittany,
As @buzz mentions line-in on the Amp is disabled when it acts as a slave to perform surround duty, but in answer to your question, ‘Yes’ the Amps line-in will work if you unbond-it from your Arc. It’s a nuisance to keep doing that though, to say the least, so you might want to consider adding a further standalone Sonos device to your setup with line-in capability. The device options with line-in are…

  • Port/Connect
  • Amp/Connect:Amp
  • Five/Play:5
  • Era-100 (requires additional dongle)
  • Era-300 (requires additional dongle)

Thank you for your reply. Does that mean then I would assume, that if I add another amp or port of some sort I still wouldn’t be able to stream the music from the turntable to the Arc? Definitely not the passive speakers connected to my current Amp.

Once the line in is in the Sonos ecosystem, you can stream that line in to any Sonos speaker in that system.
